As part of our ongoing growth and commitment to excellence, we are seeking a highly motivated Managing Quantity Surveyor (MQS) to
join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to take a lead role in managing the commercial and
financial aspects of our projects and contribute to the successful delivery of our diverse portfolio.

The Role
As the Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the commercial management of civil engineering
projects from initial planning through to final completion. You will ensure that each project remains within budget, meets
financial targets, and is delivered on schedule, while managing risks and contractual obligations. This is a senior position that
requires a high level of commercial acumen, leadership, and a deep understanding of the civil engineering sector.
In this role, you will:
* Lead and Develop a Team: Manage and mentor a team of quantity surveyors, ensuring high performance and continued professional
development. You will provide strategic direction and ensure that your team is equipped with the necessary resources and
support to perform effectively.
* Commercial Oversight: Take full responsibility for the financial and commercial management of multiple projects simultaneously,
ensuring each project is delivered on time and within budget while maintaining profitability.
* Cost Control & Forecasting: Prepare and review detailed cost estimates, budgets, and cash flow forecasts for projects. You will
proactively monitor and control project costs, ensuring they remain within approved budgets and identifying any potential
issues early on.
* Contract Management & Negotiation: Lead contract administration activities, including the negotiation and management of
contracts (such as NEC, JCT, or bespoke), ensuring compliance with agreed terms and resolving any disputes that arise. You will
work closely with the legal department and other stakeholders to ensure effective risk management and mitigate financial
exposure.
* Procurement & Subcontractor Management: Oversee the procurement process, ensuring that suppliers and subcontractors are
selected efficiently and in line with company policies. You will manage subcontractor agreements, payment schedules, and
performance, ensuring value for money while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
* Risk Management: Identify and assess potential risks associated with projects, developing and implementing strategies to
mitigate these risks. You will be responsible for providing proactive solutions to avoid delays and cost overruns.
* Reporting & Communication: Prepare regular financial reports and cost analyses for senior management and stakeholders, ensuring
that all parties are kept informed of project progress, budget performance, and key milestones. You will present financial
summaries and provide recommendations to ensure projects stay on track.
* Value Engineering: Champion value engineering initiatives across projects, identifying opportunities to reduce costs while
preserving quality and meeting client requirements. You will work closely with the design and project teams to implement
cost-effective solutions.
* Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders. You
will be responsible for managing expectations, delivering exceptional service, and ensuring that projects meet the highest
standards of client satisfaction.

Requirements
To excel in this role, you will need:
* Experience: Significant experience as a Managing Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor within the civil engineering
sector, with a strong track record in managing large-scale infrastructure projects.
* Education: A degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Membership in RICS or similar professional
body is highly desirable.
* Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of construction contracts (e.g., NEC, JCT) and a thorough understanding of civil engineering
project management.
* Leadership Skills: Strong leadership abilities, with experience managing and developing a team of quantity surveyors.
* Commercial Acumen: A deep understanding of financial management, cost control, and procurement within the civil engineering
industry.
* Software Proficiency: Competence with industry-standard software, such COINS, or similar project management and cost estimation
tools.
* Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve complex commercial and contractual
issues.
* Attributes: Highly organised, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
