Well look no further – this is the opportunity for you!
We are delighted to be recruiting for a Principal Engineer to join our friendly and experienced team here at Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.
This is a unique opportunity to make a tangible impact on our borough, enhancing the safety and convenience of journeys for our residents and visitors. Some of our recent projects include the Hartburn Lane Junction Improvements and development of the UK’s lowest carbon emission roads .
As Principal Engineer, you will be the driving force behind Stockton’s Road Safety Strategy, and you will:
* Coordinate measures to raise public awareness about safe driving practices, emphasising the dangers of inappropriate speed, drug, and drink driving.
* Lead innovative initiatives to protect vulnerable road users and strive to meet casualty reduction targets.
* Manage the collection, analysis, and publication of casualty data to enhance safety measures.
* Develop and deliver schemes to address known road safety issues.
* Cultivate partnerships, secure external funding, and engage with local community groups to drive impactful change.
You will also be supervising a team of Officers tasked with managing the Council’s Community Participation and Ward Transport budgets, as well as overseeing the Car Parking service. Your expertise will ensure that resources are allocated effectively for maximum community benefit, driving impactful changes and fostering a safer, more engaged community.
We’re innovative, not afraid to try something new and are always looking for ways to maximise resources and evolve the way we deliver services for the future to make a difference to the local community. For example, did you know we were one of the first local authorities to replace all of our streetlights with LEDs?
This is a perfect opportunity for an experienced highways engineer ready to take the next step in their career. We will provide the support you need to thrive in a leadership position.
We are keen to hear from individuals with the following:
* A degree level qualification in a highway-related field or equivalent relevant experience.
* A dynamic and innovative approach.
* Strong and versatile communication skills.
* An ability to engage and build relationships with a range of internal/external stakeholders.
* Excellent attention to detail and a proven ability of multi-tasking in a busy environment.
* Strong IT skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.
* Financial planning skills.
Whilst experience in road safety is desirable, it is not essential, and we welcome applications from those with experience in other areas of highways engineering.
