What you'll be doing: As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will take ownership of delivering timely, detailed mechanical designs that support Ashtead Technology's innovative product portfolio and meet evolving business needs. You'll play a vital part in Design Team and will guide and support fellow Mechanical Design Engineers, driving best practices and maintaining the highest standards. Some of your other responsibilities will include; Interpreting client requirements and developing Functional Design Specifications and conceptual designs using Autodesk Inventor Conducting Finite Element Analysis (FEA) with Simsolid and preparing engineering calculation packages to validate designs Collaborating with the drawing office to communicate design concepts and ensuring all engineering documentation is generated, checked, and approved as required Leading and documenting design reviews, ensuring actions are completed and design objectives are met Prioritising and managing assigned tasks under the guidance of the Project or Lead Engineer to ensure timely project delivery Attending project meetings, providing technical input, and offering technical support to workshop and offshore teams What experience you'll bring: This role would suit an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with a strong background in designing Winch systems with a keen eye for detail and a passion for driving engineering excellence. Essential experience - A degree in Mechanical Engineering Proven experience in the design of any of the following product lines: Drum Winches, Linear Winches, HPU's Tensioners, Reel Drive Systems Strong working knowledge of and experience working to relevant industry standards, including DNV 2.22, DNV 2.7-1, and DNV 2.7-3 Proficiency in mechanical design and stress calculations and use of MathCad Experience in selecting bearings, shafts, gears etc. and in writing Technical Specifications, FAT's, OMMs etc. Experience using Autodesk Inventor, Vault and AutoCAD including Finite Element Analysis Desirable experience - Relevant offshore experience and current BOSIET, Offshore Medical and MIST Certificates Experience in a senior / leadership role Chartered Status Experience using STAAD Knowledge of International Winch and Deck Machinery markets, products and associated drive and power systems (including applications) Who we are: Established in 1985, Ashtead Technology is a leading provider of subsea equipment rental solutions, advanced underwater technologies, and support services to the global offshore energy sector.
