Business Manager for Spinal Surgery (XN07)
To be responsible for the operational management and efficient delivery of Spinal Surgery services provided within the Centre for Neurosciences clinical service unit (CSU), in support of the Service Manager (SM) and General Manager (GM), ensuring effective co-ordination and management of budgets and agreed national or local performance objectives and contracts. The post holder will manage the administrative staff and will work in partnership with the Matron, ward managers, medical staff and other staff within the CSU on business planning and the development and continuous improvement of patient care processes. Appropriate working relationships will be established with colleagues in other directorates with whom their service interacts and with external bodies, such as GMs, and Service Managers within other specialties, for the fulfilment of particular service issues. The Service Manager will work with colleagues within the corporate directorates.
Main duties of the job
1. Will be responsible for the management of all administrative functions and service delivery.
2. Responsible for the delivery of financial, activity and waiting time targets.
3. Provide line-management and leadership to all staff for whom they have responsibility.
4. Oversee the management of administrative staff and services in support of the provision of high-quality care, teaching and research, within a patient-centred environment.
5. Ensure that staff are informed and engaged with planning/objective-setting and receive regular feedback on directorate performance.
6. Take a lead on service redesign involving front-line staff and patients in delivering effective, efficient, and timely services, in a cost-effective way.
7. Ensure that the necessary resources are available to deliver clinical and non-clinical services.
8. Ensure that service delivers financial targets.
9. Take responsibility for delivery of activity, waiting list and RTT waiting time.

Job responsibilities
JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY
The post holder provides management support to the CSU or a component part of the CSU. They will have responsibility for the performance of administrative and clerical staff and will ensure that services are delivered within budget to agreed quality standards and in accordance with agreed activity levels.
The post holder will also work with members of their CSU and other senior managers in the strategic development of the services provided by the CSU. This will include strategic and operational business planning and monitoring, and the development of relationships with key internal and external partners. The post holder will ensure the CSU functions as an integral part of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust and that CSU and Trust-wide objectives are achieved simultaneously.
Qualifications
* Educated to degree level or equivalent professional qualification.
* Willingness to undertake training and development as identified through the PDP process.
Experience
* Effective team leader and team player with the ability to work flexibly in a diverse and highly demanding organisation.
* NHS Management Experience Knowledge of the working of the NHS and wider healthcare system within England.
