About the Opportunity:
Due to growth in the current portfolio within National Operations of Enterprise Asset Solutions (EAS), we have an exciting opportunity for Quantity Surveyor’s of all levels to join our client facing team supporting projects across a number of existing and new Projects around the country however the successful candidates will become part of a respected and ambitious team working from our Humber facility within Enterprise Solutions to support the growth and sustainability of the performance unit moving forward. EAS are offering a truly fantastic opportunity which will allow the successful individual to be involved across multiple client sectors from inception through to final delivery.
The Commercial function within the Enterprise Asset Solutions division of Jacobs CMS provides the support to the Commercial and Procurement teams as well as the wider personnel outside of the Commercial function with a full range of pre and post contract commercial services.
The candidate will be required to develop a close working relationship with the project teams, finance, sales departments and both Clients’ and Subcontractors’ representatives. They will be able to demonstrate suitable technical qualities for the role such as an excellent understanding of construction contracts and the importance of adhering to the principles of good contract management. A detailed knowledge of a variety of construction methods and experience in a variety of projects is preferable, but not essential.
The role will require engagement on multiple projects initially supporting the Commercial Manager with client/main contract activities as well as taking ownership of procurement and management of subcontractors from project commencement through to delivery and completion. As such, the candidate will be expected to undertake travel to the various project locations to execute the works on an as required basis.
The role offers significant progression opportunities developing from an initial supporting role on larger projects to whole project accountability in a commercial capacity.
Based primarily at our Barton upon Humber office with regular attendances on local Humber and Yorkshire based client sites as well as on numerous sites and Jacobs offices around the UK. Reporting directly to the Commercial Manager on a day to day basis.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
1. Degree educated in Quantity Surveying or other relevant qualification;
2. Background in either Engineering, Oil & Gas or Water / Utilities Sectors;
3. Previous experience in a similar role and working knowledge of Construction Contracts, with specific focus on the NEC3 and NEC4 forms of contract;
4. Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail & ability to communicate confidently and work well under pressure;
5. Excellent knowledge of XL and bespoke construction contract management systems Familiar with management systems and procedures for procurement and contract management;
6. Technical awareness and able to work with some support to deliver all post contract service delivery and to solve problems;
7. Understanding of planning methodology, cost forecasting and reporting, cost control, cost risk management, contract documentation preparation and contract administration;
8. Commercial awareness with both pre and post contract knowledge with a a can-do attitude and excellent work ethic.
Here's What You'll Need:
9. Work with the Commercial Manager in ensuring consistency and best practice ways of working across the business unit to achieve continuous improvement;
10. Review, understand and communicate Subcontract requirements to the Delivery Team;
11. Ensure effective change control process and management of, is embedded within the relevant projects/contracts you are responsible for;
12. Ensure Sub-Contract arrangements are put in place when required using the NEC suite of Contract Documents;
13. Ensure correct administrative processes are put in place for management of these Sub-Contracts paying attention to change controls, early warning, compensation events, changes to scope of works and payment;
14. Provide support for Project Controls and Cost Engineers in order to submit cost reports for review by the Commercial Manager, to enable the utilization of the data for cost forecasts, revenue, and gross margin assumptions/submissions;
15. Manage subcontracts from initial placement of order to final account including close liaison with procurement, planning and delivery teams to ensure that the order meets project requirements;
16. Maintain effective, accurate cost control, registers of variations, delay, extension of time, early warnings, and claims.
