RESTORE Cumbria
We are looking for someone with good retail and interpersonal skills, and a passion for community to take the lead in launching a brand-new shop in the centre of Carlisle. The successful applicant will have creative input and work alongside our General Manager to set up and manage our new store. This person should be enthusiastic about community involvement and willing to work with others to build a new space and new relationships.
Though the role is full time at 37.5 hours, we would consider a 30-hour contract for the right applicant.
RESTORE is a charity shop with a difference. Our shops operate profitably to provide funds to support our activities in our local communities, like our community shed, community spaces and Restore on the Road projects. Together we work hard to provide safe places for people to chat, meet and be valued. Just like those we seek to support we are a community at RESTORE, made up of a diverse group of volunteers, employees and members. We seek to nurture creativity and positivity in our spaces, each shop being as different as the managers who look after them. As well as supporting people through community initiatives, we also provide essential access to affordable goods. Additionally, we work to support environmental goals by encouraging people to Re-use, Re-cycle and Re-pair.
1. Job Purpose
Initially, to aid in the fit out and development of the shop. Then to manage our RESTORE shop and the community spaces in line with RESTORE’s vision and ethos.
2. Principal Responsibilities:
1. Aiding the General Manager in the fit out of the new store. This will include practical work, elements of design, working to a plan and working with different types of external contractors.
2. Guiding, inspiring and engaging a diverse team.
3. Managing your team and co-operating with other RESTORE managers to achieve sales and other targets.
4. Leading the commercial running of the store, including displays and merchandising, stock and waste management, maintaining high standards of administration and compliance.
5. Providing excellent customer service and upholding a high level of duty-of-care to all.
6. Making a big difference in the local community by creating and maintaining good relationships with key community organisations.
7. Holding an in-date basic DBS check, safeguarding training certificate, first aid certificate, and H&S certificate, in accordance with RESTORE’s policies and procedures.
8. Being responsible for the day-to-day compliance with RESTORE’s policies and procedures and relevant legislation, working with the General Manager to make any improvements needed.
9. Managing and maintaining an evolving community space, working with other groups to start projects in line with RESTORE’s vision and ethos.
10. Keeping accurate records and submitting them punctually to the RESTORE administration team, as and when required.
3. Management
Our charity shop managers report to the General Manager. The General Manager is supported by a board of trustees, with a broad range of commercial and technical skills.
4. Essential Requirements:
1. Must be able to relocate or reliably commute to Carlisle for work.
2. Experience of supervising in a retail environment, preferably including volunteers.
3. Empathy with the RESTORE vision and values.
4. Basic IT/administrative skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
5. Interest or experience in community-based activities.
6. Good understanding of compliance and keeping people safe (including Safeguarding).
7. Willingness to undergo any relevant training that RESTORE may see fit.
8. Good interpersonal skills and ability to develop relationships across organisations.
