Contract Type: Temporary contract - £18-19 per hour
Key Responsibilities:
1. Cutting, Shaping and Assembling Metal Plates: Work with various metal materials such as steel, stainless steel, and aluminium to create and assemble plates used in construction and manufacturing.
2. Reading Technical Drawings: Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine dimensions, measurements, and cutting requirements.
3. Welding and Fabrication: Use welding equipment and techniques to join metal components and ensure they meet industry standards and specifications.
4. Inspection and Quality Control: Ensure the quality of the work by checking dimensions, tolerance, and finishes. Conduct inspections to meet safety and compliance standards.
5. Preparation and Set-Up: Prepare materials by cleaning, grinding, or machining as needed before fabrication.
6. Health and Safety: Follow all relevant health and safety regulations, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and ensure a safe working environment.
7. Maintenance and Repair: Maintain machinery and equipment, making minor repairs when necessary.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
1. Experience in Plating/Fabrication: Previous experience working with metal plates and a solid understanding of fabrication processes.
2. Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of welding techniques, metal cutting, and plate fabrication.
3. Attention to Detail: Precision in measurements and ensuring high-quality work.
4. Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to solve challenges that arise during fabrication or assembly processes.
5. Ability to Read Technical Drawings: A good understanding of how to read and interpret complex technical drawings and blueprints.
6. Safety Awareness: Strong awareness of health and safety protocols in a workshop or industrial environment.
7. Time Management: Ability to complete tasks efficiently and meet deadlines.
Desirable Qualifications:
1. NVQ or City & Guilds in Fabrication and Welding: Formal qualifications in welding or fabrication, particularly those related to working with metal plates.
2. Relevant Industry Experience: Experience in specific industries such as shipbuilding, construction, or heavy manufacturing.
Working Conditions:
Location: Industrial or workshop setting.
Schedule: Day shift: Mon-Friday days - 40-50 hours per week
