Physical Training Instructor PTI
Job Background:
The Physical Training Instructor (PTI) works as part of the multi-disciplinary Occupational Health & Wellbeing (OHW) team. The PTI is responsible for the occupational health and wellbeing of Student Officers, Probationer Officers, Police Officers and Police Staff. They are required to design and deliver physical training to help learners attain and maintain appropriate work-related physical competence standards. They also deliver general fitness, health and wellbeing training and support those rehabilitating from injury and illness.
Hours of work: Monday - Friday - 37 hours per week.
Salary: £30,721 - £31,352 (under review) plus £1365 (Environmental Allowance).
Current vacancies exist in Antrim Road, Lisnasharragh and Maydown. This process may be used to fill PTI posts throughout the organisation in the following locations: Antrim Road, Enniskillen, Garnerville, Lisnasharragh, Mahon Road, Maydown and Steeple.
Main Activities:
The main duties and responsibilities associated with the role include the following:
* Conducting PSNI Candidate Physical Competence Assessments (PCA).
* Designing and delivering the Physical Health and Wellbeing component of the Student Officer and Probationer Development Training courses.
* Assessing the physical competence of Student and Probationer Officers.
* Identifying the physical developmental needs of Student and Probationer Officers.
* Providing coaching to help improve physical fitness standards.
* Working with PSNI’s management to design and deliver role-related physical competence assessments.
* Implementing PSNI’s Pre-selection Courses including Physical. Competence Assessments, Pre Select Days and Assessment Courses and In-service Physical Competence Assessments.
* Developing personal rehabilitation programmes for Police Officers and Police Staff referred by OHW.
* Designing and delivering wellbeing courses, events and fitness classes based on PSNI requirements.
* Managing PSNI sports halls and fitness areas.
* Responsible for implementing Health and Safety processes and procedures.
Additional duties and responsibilities:
* Assisting with the development and implementation of the Physical Health and Wellbeing Business Plan, including the Health Promotion, Specialist Unit and Regional Plans.
* Participating in Physical Health and Wellbeing meetings.
* Contributing to the development of the business strategy.
* Maintaining records on the OHW digital storage system.
* Maintaining accurate paper files where appropriate.
* Maintaining a moderate level of fitness (be able to achieve Level 9 on 20m Multistage Fitness Test).

Personal Specification
Essential Qualifications:
* Must hold a Honours Degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, Leisure and Exercise, or in a discipline with similar practical and theoretical content by the date of appointment.
Essential Skills and Experience:
* One year’s experience teaching, training or instructing individuals or groups in a physical education or fitness environment.
* One year’s experience designing and delivering fitness assessment and training programmes.
* A thorough understanding of fitness assessment and training programme design.
* This job roles is physical in nature and requires a moderate level of physical fitness (be able to achieve Level 9 on 20m Multistage Fitness Test).
Essential Other:
* The successful candidate must have access to a form of transport which will enable them to fulfil the responsibilities of the job in full.
* IT literate specifically in the use of the Microsoft Office suite. (Including MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel and MS Outlook).
Desirable Skills and Experience:
* Two years’ practical experience of teaching, training or instructing groups and individuals in a physical education or fitness environment.
* Two years’ experience designing and delivering fitness assessment and training programmes.
* Please note: Successful applicants will be required to reach the Recruitment Physical Competency Assessment (PCA, Level 9) within 6 months of being appointed.
