The Role Thales Underwater Systems delivers a state of the art Sonar capability for UK and International Navies. Our systems are developed for a wide range of significant defence projects, including the Astute and Dreadnought class submarines, Merlin helicopters, Type 23 frigates and the Hunt class mine countermeasures vessel. We also provide Mission Planning, Situational Awareness and Information Management Systems for defence are looking to recruit a Calibration Controller. As a Calibration Controller within Thales, you are a key member of the manufacturing team based at our site in Templecombe where we are producing the next-generation of Sonar technologies, for which we are world-renowned. Key Responsibilities and Tasks Joining a friendly and collaborative team, your will be responsible for the Management, Administration and control of Measurement Equipment for the UWS Templecombe & Cheadle Heath Sites (Based at Templecombe). Act as a primary user and site co-ordinator for the MEMS system and processes Monitor and report KPIs Order and return General Purpose Test Equipment as requested Generate and publish out of calibration and overdue hire reports as appropriate in order to allow users to optimise usage and return of test equipment. Liaise with MEMS users and the MEMS Management Team to ensure continual improvements to the system are proposed and carried forward. Supply test equipment requirements and usage information to Operations Management and MEMS Teams to ensure that appropriate purchases are proposed and carried forward. Control and administrate Notifications of Deviation Management, administration and control of Special-to-type Test Equipment (STTE) (Produce and release of Calibration and Safety labelling and Manage transfer of all STTE and relevant records). Liaise with external test equipment manufacturers and internal test equipment users in order to arrange and organise relevant trials and demonstrations. Management and control of storage areas within the test department in order to optimise usage. Maximise usage of MEMS. Scan and electronically store documentation as appropriate. Generate relevant metrics for the Test Department as directed by Industrial Operations Management. Ensure that all Reference System processes relevant to the calibration and maintenance of test equipment reflect current working practices and are updated as necessary. Ensure that all documentation (both self-generated and that of colleagues which is administrated by this function) is compliant to Thales standards. Ensure colleagues are informed and supported, where deficiencies are found, to ensure correct procedures are adhered to. Conduct and manage other asset related verifications such as ESD control measures and lifting equipment Your Skills and Experience You should have a few years’ experience, preferably in a manufacturing background and in a similar role and are looking for your next career move. You will need to be able to work unsupervised and be a motivated self-starter. Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels both verbally and written. Experience in a manufacturing environment with low volumes and be-spoke production Experience of AS9100, IS0 9001, ISO 14001 and OHASAS18001 standards Test experience Computer literate & experience with using Outlook, Word & Excel Attention to detail and ability to ensure all work is carried out accurately and conscientiously.
