Aspiring Youth Outreach Worker - Aylesbury - Education and Training
This LSA role is in a specialist provision for teenagers aged 14-19 who have experienced significant trauma, as well as social, emotional, and mental health challenges.
The position focuses on holistic and restorative practices, creating empathy wherever possible. The school prioritizes non-punitive measures, utilizing manual handling training only when absolutely necessary.
A practical trial day will be conducted in the school to ensure the role is suitable for you. This is contingent on your availability to start ASAP or if you have a notice period and are looking for a January start.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Support students in making their lives better, ensuring their safety.
2. Demonstrate the value of education to the students.
3. Engage with children with various needs, including those with EHCPs, Autism, OCD, and social anxiety.
4. Utilize physical work combined with pragmatic approaches to foster academic progress.
5. Manage some anti-social behavior as part of aiding vulnerable children.
6. Participate in provided training, including SEN and safeguarding training, and MAPA training.
7. Implement various therapies and holistic processes to facilitate progress.
8. Provide positive engagement, offering a sense of acceptance to students.
9. Set objectives for students and promote independence, particularly for those in assisted living.
This role requires flexibility and creativity in approaches, as traditional talking therapy may not always be effective. A focus on diverse cognitive abilities and individual student needs is essential.
