Role overview
Introduction: We seek a Senior Associate / Legal Director with experience in subsidy control and public procurement to join our busy practice. Reporting to Partner Mark Fitzgibbon, the role involves advising a diverse client base across public, private, and third sectors.
Team: Our team includes Partners, Senior Associates, Associates, and Trainees across multiple UK offices, focusing on non-contentious commercial work with a collaborative approach.
Key responsibilities:
* Advising public sector bodies and recipients on compliance with the Subsidy Control Act.
* Providing trusted commercial advisory services and supporting project delivery.
* Experience with public procurement regulations and strategic advice on procurement challenges.
* Handling commercial supply-chain contracts including drafting, negotiation, and strategic planning.
* Delivering training, updates, and articles on procurement law changes.
What we are looking for
Essential:
* Law degree or equivalent
* Understanding of legislation including Subsidy Control Act, Public Contracts Regulations, Procurement Act, and related regulations
* Experience advising public sector clients on procurement legislation and compliance
* Strong drafting and negotiation skills
* Ability to work independently and in a team, with good time management
* Excellent legal and commercial research skills
* Proactive in business development
Desirable:
* Knowledge of Data Protection, Unfair Terms, and IP issues in commercial contexts
* Track record in business development activities
* Strong relationship-building and networking skills
* Effective under pressure, good listening skills, and feedback receptiveness
* Mentoring experience for junior staff
