Optometrist - Cataract Service
Location: Gillingham
Hours: Permanent, full-time, Monday - Friday with occasional Saturday
Salary range: £70K - £85K depending on experience
About the role
Working in a private surgical centre based in Gillingham for a national growing organisation delivering outstanding care. Utilising the latest ophthalmic equipment, including IOL Master 700 and the latest edition Humphrey Visual Field Analyser. Specialist areas offered include cataract surgery pathways, age related macular degeneration assessment and treatment pathways and ocular-plastic pathway.

What we are looking for in an Optometrist:
1. Qualified and GOC registered optometrist with ophthalmology
2. 2+ years Experience in optometry within the specialism of ophthalmology - pre- and post-assessments of patients referred for refractive surgery
3. Knowledge and skills in respect of ophthalmic disease e.g. glaucoma
Your main responsibilities as an Optometrist:
1. Organise and undertake pre-operative and post-operative assessments, including specialised biometry and ophthalmic measurements, of patients during the pre-procedure or post-procedure phase of their care pathway
2. Participate in the ongoing development of the ophthalmology services within the Hospital
3. Manage appropriate referral onto other Consultants, or back to General Practitioners, for further assessment and treatment where indicated
4. Ensure completion of accurate information and assessment within the patient electronic record and Medisoft
5. Evaluate a patient’s suitability to undergo refractive surgery, and identify the appropriate course of treatment most suited to their individual requirements
6. Provide verbal and written information and advice to patients pertaining to the proposed procedure
7. Measure UCVA, distance and near, monocularly and binocularly, pinhole where required
8. Examine the eye using the slit-lamp
9. Participate in the local orientation/induction programme providing guidance and support and teaching to less experienced or junior staff as appropriate
