The opportunity has arisen to employ a team of Dietetic Assistant Practitioners to work with communities across Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board to deliver a range of community based initiatives, to support weight management services.
Staff will utilise a range of agreed approaches to support positive changes to food, nutrition, and physical activity behaviours, with signposting to the local services on offer.
The successful candidates will receive a range of training opportunities to support them in this role and they will work alongside fellow Dietetic Assistant Practitioners in Public Health Dietetics; under the guidance of the Senior Public Health Dietitians. They will receive weekly supervision sessions with a registered dietitian and will work closely with a range of partner agencies to promote positive healthy lifestyle behaviours.
All post holders will work relatively independently, working to an agreed framework with a degree of autonomy and will be responsible and accountable for these tasks. This will involve having their own caseload and working with a range of partners and organisations in a complex community environment.
Main Duties of the Job
1. To plan, develop, coordinate and deliver nutrition based group education sessions, practical cooking skills and community based nutrition interventions to a range of audiences, under the direction of Specialist Public Health Dietitians.
2. To contribute to team and community needs assessments, to plan and implement nutrition and health promoting activities under direction of Specialist Public Health Dietitians.
3. To review, monitor and coordinate progression of nutrition training packages and food initiatives for a range of community based partners, under the guidance of Specialist Public Health Dietitians and in line with recognised standards.
4. To motivate, guide and encourage participants to participate in health promoting activities, monitor their progress and report outcomes/findings to the team or wider partners.
5. To work autonomously and under own initiative on specific projects, as agreed with supervising Public Health Dietitian, seeking advice and support as necessary.
6. To maintain clear and accurate records in line with professional and departmental standards; recording and collating activity, evaluation and outcome data pertinent to role and Public Health Dietetic team.

Person Specification
Qualifications and/or Knowledge
* NVQ Level 3 or equivalent level of knowledge acquired through a combination of credited training, short courses and experience.
* Knowledge of public health nutritional messages and current services.
* Teaching or training qualification.
* Food Hygiene Certificate.
* Agored Cymru Level 2 Community Food and Nutrition Skills.
* Working towards obtaining level 4 credits in line with the Health Care Support Worker Framework.
Experience
* Previous experience of working in NHS, social care or community setting.
* Experience of team working.
* Experience dealing with telephone enquiries.
* Experience of using Windows, Microsoft Office, Outlook packages and experience of data inputting.
* Experience working with groups.
* Attendance at relevant courses/conferences.
* Experience of presenting to small groups.
Aptitude and Abilities Skills
* Ability to work independently with community groups and experience working with groups.
* Ability to work as part of a team.
* Excellent communication skills - verbal and written.
* Ability to prioritise workload according to service needs.
* Time management skills.
* Accurate keyboard skills - inputting data, word processing, internet use.

* The ability to speak or learn Welsh to a satisfactory level.

Salary: £26,530 to £29,114 a year per annum pro rata
