Physical Training Instructor, Youth Development Unit at NZ Defence Force, Canterbury

Youth Development Unit (YDU), which is an initiative created as part of the Government ‘Fresh Start' youth policy, provides youth training programmes to young New Zealanders under an arrangement with several other Government agencies including the Ministry of Social Development, Ministry of Education and the New Zealand Police.
As a Physical Trainer Instructor (PTI) you will conduct physical training within our Youth Development Unit, to help improve, maintain and restore physical fitness with youth aged between 13 – 25.
Main Responsibilities:
* Instruct classes in a range of physical training activities, mainly strength and conditioning, sports related and some water based activities.
* Organise and deliver sport and recreation activities such as sports tournaments and triathlon events.
* Deliver individualised personal training programmes as and when required.
* Provide nutritional advice as and when required.
To be successful in this role you will need:
* Proven experience in delivering physical training to classes, groups and individuals, ideally with youth.
* A Diploma in Sport and Exercise, or equivalent.
* Highly effective communication skills and the ability to relate well to a wide range of people.
* A pro-active, positive and inclusive attitude.
* To take pride in offering the best possible service and display leadership in their area of expertise.
Working with, developing and supporting youth would be advantageous. A qualification in nutrition would be desirable.
This role requires occasional domestic travel to other NZDF's Camps and Bases. You need to have a Class 1 Full Driver's Licence.

* You must be a New Zealand citizen or you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa.
* At minimum, you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa, and you must be a citizen of and have lived in Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, United States of America or New Zealand continuously for the last five (5) years.
* You must have a five (5) year background history that can be verified and assessed appropriately by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) to determine if you are suitable for a security clearance at this level.
