What you’ll be doing:
* Demonstrating detailed and comprehensive understanding of concepts and principles relating to Systems Engineering and Radar antenna design
* Leading the decomposition and management of requirements within Antenna sub-system scope aligned to stakeholder needs – DOORS Next experience advantageous
* Responsibility for developing end-to-end performance modelling of Transmit/Receive processing
* Modelling Antenna and Radar system performance, including performance budget definition for aperture errors, time delay behaviour, and adaptive beamforming
* Responsibility for modelling the Clutter Attenuation/Improvement factor and related performance budget
* Leading design decomposition and architectural definition within Antenna sub‑system scope
* Managing development of sub-systems within Antenna scope to agreed performance metrics (size, weight, power, cost, test time, etc).
* Developing antenna array calibration solutions, including associated processing algorithms and error budgets
* Defining and articulating acceptance strategies at each appropriate level of Antenna sub-system design, ensuring suitability for relevant stakeholders
* Applying and championing the Systems Engineering principles of ISO 15288 to the design of complex Radar systems through the entire engineering lifecycle
* Liaising closely with the Future Radar System Design Authority and other stakeholders to ensure that the Antenna can operate successfully as an essential part of Future Radar system designs
Your skills and experiences:
* Strong understanding of some of the following subject areas; Active Electronically Scanned Array Antenna (AESA); wideband signal generation; element-level signal digitisation; antenna aperture characteristics; adaptive beamforming, clutter attenuation
* Good understanding of factors that can affect the real-world performance of Radar systems and how these can impact accuracy and sensing performance to meet challenging design objectives and requirements
* Comprehensive understanding and experience of concepts and principles relating to Systems Engineering (e.g. ISO 15288) and Radar antenna design
* Experience of leading large scale complex system designs
* Experience of requirements management in a contemporary toolset such as IBM DOORS Next
Benefits:
As well as a competitive pension scheme, BAE Systems also offers employee share plans, an extensive range of flexible discounted health, wellbeing and lifestyle benefits, including a green car scheme, private health plans and shopping discounts – you may also be eligible for an annual incentive.
The Radar Systems Engineering team:
The role will have responsibility for developing a state-of-the-art Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) Antenna, comprising both wideband signal generation and signal digitisation at element-level in a scalable design. Subsequent responsibility will drive evolution of AESA Antenna design variants for multiple Radar applications with minimal modification to the core product design.
We are looking for a highly experienced professional engineer with a depth and breadth of knowledge in Systems Engineering and Radar technology.
Our workplace in Cowes is an easily accessible commute from Southampton with a regular foot passenger ferry and BAE shuttle service from the ferry terminal to site.
