About the role
and about you
Based at Tower of London with occasional travel across all HRP sites
Temporary 3 Year Contract – Full Time
We are the independent charity that loves and looks after six of the most wonderful palaces in the world.
The palaces are the setting for the stories that shape us all, and we’re bringing them to people in ways that mean more to them.
We want everyone to find themselves in the spaces and stories we share.
The Role
We are seeking a fulltime Assistant Curator (Historic Buildings) to join a team of research led curators to help deliver an ambitious programme of conservation, infrastructure and public engagement projects at the Tower of London. This role will work collaboratively with colleagues across Historic Royal Palaces, to help research and share the story of our six palaces and the people whose lives helped shape them. The special focus of this role will be researching the architectural history of buildings within the Tower of London, writing research reports, Statements of Significance, and Heritage Impact Assessments to support future projects.
Who are we looking for?
You will be passionate about architectural history, at home working with primary sources in historic archives, and confident in your ability to communicate your knowledge to a wide variety of different audiences. We are looking for someone who has experience researching historic buildings and determining their significance in line with Historic England’s Conservation Principles, Policies and Guidance. You will be comfortable working on multiple projects with competing priorities and deadlines.
This is an exciting opportunity to work in one of the most iconic buildings in the country and to develop your expertise and experience working alongside a highly skilled curatorial team. The person specification provides more detail on the knowledge and experience we think will help make a candidate successful in this role. It is likely there are areas within the person specification you fit well, and those you don’t. You will be supported to learn and develop if there are some gaps in your knowledge or experience. If you think you might be a good fit for this role, we encourage you to apply.
