Catchment Monitoring Advisor
Working hours: Full time 37 hours per week (flexible working arrangements will be considered where this can be managed)
Contract: 2 year fixed term contract or Secondment
Salary: up to £30,145 per annum depending on experience.
Location: Pity Me, Durham, County Durham
Role Overview: Are you passionate about the environment? We’re looking for Catchment Monitoring Advisors to work within the Environment & Sustainability team to support our data and evidence collection through our collaborative Thriving Catchments programme.
Through Thriving Catchments, we’re building on the Catchment Based Approach, partnering with national experts and local rivers and wildlife trusts to identify actions to improve river health and water quality and develop catchment and nature-based solutions. Our current focus for catchment monitoring is on addressing nutrients to enhance the ecological status of waterbodies.
Your work will primarily be field-based, involving tasks such as:
1. Collecting river samples
2. Conducting catchment walkovers and surveys
3. Gathering information on issues and problems
4. Managing simple and complex monitoring equipment
You will also meet with stakeholders and partners, discussing findings to support the programme. Additionally, you may need to interact with members of the public during your fieldwork.
Lone working may be required, but for most of the time, we expect you to work alongside a team member to investigate and gather evidence of water quality issues and potential improvements.
About you:
If you have a keen interest in improving the environment and rivers, along with a questioning mindset and love being outdoors, then we want to hear from you.
You should be comfortable working outside in all weather conditions, including in remote areas, and you’ll enjoy working as part of a team.
We need you to be proactive in managing your own workload. The role will involve travelling around Northumbrian Water’s operating area, so you’ll need a full driving licence.
You should be IT literate and familiar with Microsoft Office packages, as some reporting and written communication will be part of this role.
While prior experience in the environment and an understanding of environmental monitoring is beneficial, full training will be provided.
Please note this role may require a DBS to be completed prior to employment.
Please note due to the nature of travel with this role the successful candidate will need a Full UK Driving licence.
