Overview
This newly established role presents an exciting opportunity for individuals eager to make a significant impact and actively contribute to strategic initiatives. As a key member of the Regulatory Assurance team, the Regulatory Assurance Financial Crime Technical Specialist plays a crucial role in providing reassurance to Senior Management, including Boards, Executive Committees, and Audit and Risk Committees, that regulatory requirements are being met.
The role involves conducting risk-based assurance reviews, both specific to business units and thematic, to evaluate the extent to which line management complies with regulatory procedural requirements and internal control standards.
This ensures that the Company consistently meets its external legal and regulatory obligations. The remit encompasses financial crime risk management across areas such as bribery and corruption, fraud, investigations, sanctions, and money laundering.

How you'll make an impact
All members of the Regulatory Assurance team are expected to foster a strong compliance culture throughout the company and maintain effective relationships with management and staff within Gallagher businesses, assisting them at all times to comply with FCA standards and other regulatory and relevant legal requirements.
* Collaborate with Financial Crime leadership to develop an annual programme of work that targets key financial crime risks.
* Lead risk-based Financial Crime assurance reviews, both specific to business units and thematic, to evaluate the business's compliance with relevant regulatory requirements (e.g., FCA Rules and Principles) and adherence to Gallagher’s procedural requirements and professional standards.
* Produce precise assurance reports and ensure that any issues identified from monitoring activities are promptly addressed by the business. This includes maintaining comprehensive records of all assurance activities.
* Ensure the timely escalation of significant compliance issues to the Regulatory Assurance Managers and Regulatory Assurance Director.
* Identify development needs and coach review team members to ensure they deliver high-quality work.
* Assist with and drive the completion of the Regulatory Assurance plan.
* Support the maintenance and updates of the Assurance Plan and report against objectives and SLAs.
* Assist in the adherence to and reporting of the Risk Universe and Compliance management information.
* Contribute to the development and implementation of an effective compliance culture.
* Support, liaise with, and monitor other members of the Regulatory Assurance team, and collaborate with the wider Risk & Compliance teams to ensure consistency and effective dissemination of best practices across the Company.
* Contribute to the development of regulatory procedures by identifying areas of weakness and suggesting improvements.
* Stay informed about industry developments to maintain appropriate competency levels.
* Be familiar with the business and current regulatory and compliance initiatives to meet the Financial Conduct Authority compliance requirements applicable to Gallagher.
* Perform day-to-day duties in accordance with internal policies and procedures, applicable laws, rules, regulations, good governance, and Gallagher’s shared values, particularly prioritising clients.
* Take all reasonable steps to ensure that business units or functions under review are demonstrably compliant with applicable laws, rules, regulations, good governance, and Gallagher’s shared values, especially putting clients at the heart of our business. If shortcomings are identified, take responsibility for remedial action planning and execution in conjunction with relevant experts within the firm.
About You
* Must hold or be willing to work towards Cert CII
* Experience of testing systems and controls around financial crime compliance.
* A thorough understanding of the FCA Handbook.
* Detailed technical knowledge and experience of the UK regulatory framework and markets as it applies to insurance brokers, the wholesale markets and underwriting (highly desirable).
* An understanding of the wider impact of regulation on consumers and businesses from a commercial perspective.
* The ability to perform data analysis on complex data sets.
* Financial crime experience essential and insurance experience desirable.
* Commercial awareness and the ability to take a pragmatic approach in understanding and applying regulatory requirements, including the understanding of confidential issues and the use of discretion.
* An understanding of the compliance risks facing insurance brokers.
* Proven ability to evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of financial, operational, regulatory and technology controls.
* Experience of the UK regulatory framework and markets as it applies to insurance brokers, the wholesale markets and underwriting.
* Knowledge of business processes & procedures and the ability to offer solutions to the Company where issues exist.
* Being able to learn and understand new subjects quickly and deliver high quality output within tight deadlines.
* Strong organisational skills and ability to enjoy working well under pressure.
* Attention to detail.
* Persuasive and credible influencing and negotiating skills.
* Takes a hands-on practical problem-solving approach to achieving business outcomes and to ensuring that the right business culture and behaviours are being pursued.
