Overview:
Orbital Recruitment are recruiting for our client based in Mansfield. We are currently looking for a reliable, detail-oriented External Contents Operative to join their team. This role is pivotal in ensuring the careful packing, loading, transportation, and unloading of household contents and personal belongings. The successful candidate will be responsible for handling physical work efficiently, treating customers’ belongings with the utmost care and respect, and providing direct customer contact.
Purpose of the Role:
As an External Contents Operative, you will be responsible for assisting with the safe movement and handling of household items. This involves careful packing, loading, unloading, and ensuring items are transported safely and in accordance with company protocols. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure.
Responsibilities:
* Packing, Loading, and Unloading: Carefully pack and move household items using appropriate materials to ensure safe transportation.
* Manual Handling: Safely use equipment (e.g., dollies, straps, wheels) to transport heavy items and move them securely.
* Inventory Management: Ensure an inventory of items is completed before moving any contents to track all belongings accurately.
* Damage Identification and Reporting: Identify existing damage to items, ensuring it is documented and reported to prevent complaints.
* Wrapping and Packing: Follow procedures to ensure contents are safely secured for transfer or storage, minimising risks of damage.
* Handling Unrestorable/BER Items: Ensure proper approval is obtained before disposing of unrestorable contents and follow recycling guidelines.
* Customer Communication: Liaise with customers and customer representatives to provide updates on progress and address any queries.
* Cleaning and Restoring Items: Ensure all contents returned to customers are cleaned and restored to a high standard.
* Record Keeping: Accurately document work completed, including photographs and any discrepancies or damage to items.
* Vehicle Maintenance: Ensure company vehicles used in transportation are maintained, clean, and organised.
* Health & Safety: Maintain safe working conditions for yourself and colleagues, adhering to all health and safety protocols.
* Professional Conduct: Always behave professionally on-site and maintain confidentiality regarding customer claims and information.
* Training & Development: Participate in formal or on-the-job training to improve job performance and professional growth.
Skills and Experience:
* Previous experience in manual labour or moving/handling goods.
* Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow procedures accurately.
* Ability to lift and move heavy items in line with manual handling guidelines.
* Good communication skills and ability to interact with customers in a professional manner.
* Strong organisational skills and the ability to maintain accurate records.
* Flexibility and the ability to work in a high-pressure environment.
* Full understanding of health and safety practices and working with PPE.
Working Environment:
This is a physically demanding role, and you will spend most of your time on-site handling contents, including heavy lifting. You will be required to work with minimal supervision and sometimes assist with administrative tasks. You may also be required to work on Saturdays and overtime as needed.
Salary
£25,000 - £26,000 per annum
Hours of Work
8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (with occasional Saturdays and overtime)
