The Role
We seek a Trainee Technical Director to embark on a comprehensive training path with the ultimate aim of becoming the Technical Director of AML. This role involves active participation in all technical activities within the AML UKAS accredited laboratory, ensuring hands-on experience and engagement. Additionally, the position requires contributing to the maintenance and development of the laboratory’s calibration systems and capabilities. The role also includes working towards the maintenance and development of electroacoustic standards through active membership in UK, EU, and other relevant committees. This multifaceted approach ensures a well-rounded development towards a leadership position in the technical domain.
Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities for this role include undertaking training and associated activities under the supervision of the Technical Director whilst engaging in personal research and study to enhance your technical knowledge. You will be responsible for delegated technical issues within the AML laboratory and help maintain UKAS accreditation, working towards the role of UKAS “Laboratory Manager.” Participation in technical development projects to improve and expand the laboratory’s measurement capabilities is also expected. Additionally, you will assist in managing laboratory and on-site calibration systems and associated software (such as ADACS and NI), and perform traceable and UKAS calibrations appropriate to your competence level, with the goal of performing high-level calibrations after acquiring the necessary training and experience. You will also be involved in preparing Quality system documentation, including technical procedures, and participate in both online and in-person technical meetings as required.
Qualifications
You should possess a degree in electronics/electroacoustics with specialist knowledge of electroacoustic measurement principles and techniques including microphones, sound level meters, sound level calibrators etc. A knowledge of vibratory measurement principles and techniques including accelerometry, vibration level measurement, vibration level calibrators etc would also be beneficial. You should have knowledge of electroacoustic and vibration standards and other reference documents and software techniques to implement electroacoustic measuring systems. Additionally, we expect good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to produce technical reports including procedures, quality system documentation, standards and investigative reports. You should be able to develop creative and practical solutions to new measurement requirements and to improve existing measurement systems. You will be a proven practical fault-finder and have the ability to repair analog/digital circuitry to component level. System integration/configuration for electroacoustic measurements is expected. You will be a self-starter and able to self-motivate and successfully drive projects to completion. It would be preferable if you have a minimum of five years’ experience of working in a UKAS accredited laboratory or similar environment with a practical experience of electroacoustic (and ideally audiometric) calibration measurements and techniques.
