Programme Lead - Climate Advocacy and Green Buildings Reporting to: Programme and Business Development Director Responsible For: Climate and Green Buildings Co-ordinator Job role: To lead Reall’s climate and green buildings agenda. Drive the organisation forward as a global thought and practice-leader in climate-smart and affordable homes. The position plays a critical role in the future impact and direction of Reall, specifically: leading on knowledge and innovation on sustainable housing solutions in emerging markets; driving improvements in environmental performance and Reall’s commitment to become a Net Zero organisation; forging strategic opportunities and relationships to inform, influence and advocate globally and in the markets in which Reall operates; attract climate-focused funding into Reall. Key Responsibilities Strategy: To lead the development of Reall’s climate agenda, a critical element of Reall’s overall strategy. Ensure climate is effectively embedded across all business strands and feeds into all key decision-making, including on investments, business development and external engagement. Programmes: To oversee the design, development and/or delivery of content relating to climate and green buildings. This includes green certification roll-out, new innovations (in design, delivery models, financial instruments and beyond) and strategic oversight of Reall’s flagship Green Affordable Housing Finance Working with the wider team on complementary business development activities, investor relations and content development. Sector engagement and advocacy: Lead Reall’s relations with climate and green buildings global and regional thought-leaders, global networks, multilateral bodies, peer organisations, consultancies and academia. Design and deliver engagement plans to influence changes in policy, practice and resource deployment across the sector. Knowledge and thought-leadership: Drive forward innovation, research and evidence-creation related to climate and green buildings. Lead on policy briefs and wider climate thought-leadership collateral. Represent Reall at high level global and regional events, enhancing Reall’s position as a pioneering climate innovator and thought-leader. Partnerships: Forge strong partnerships with a diverse set of external stakeholders to unlock strategic opportunities related to programme collaboration, fundraising, research and sector influence. Pathway to net zero: Responsible for driving improvements in climate and environmental performance across Reall’s delivery work and internally, in support of Reall’s commitment to become a Net Zero organisation. Technical support and advisory to Reall’s build partners on green homes delivery, green tools and accreditation systems. Raising green standards and increasing capacity to meet and report on minimum green standards. Team management: To set and oversee the climate and green buildings team objectives and effectively manage reportee(s). Manage performance, support wellbeing and professional growth. Other requirements The post is based in Coventry. The role will include overseas travel. Package Salary: £45,000- £50,000 Hours: Normal office hours are 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. We are open to flexible working patterns subject to the objectives and outcomes of the role being met. We are currently working hybrid with blended office and homeworking with the ability to work up to three days from home. Annual leave: 33 days plus 1 additional day for every year of service (up to 38 days) plus an additional day off on your birthday Probation: Six months. Person Specification Education: A relevant degree or professional qualification in engineering, architecture, urban planning, sustainability or related areas. Relevant further education or qualifications is preferred. Knowledge of the urban sustainability challenges facing cities in emerging markets and/or climate finance is an asset. Experience: A minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience within climate, urban sustainability or green buildings, preferably within an emerging market context. Key Competencies Essential Expertise in green buildings and their relationship to sustainability goals such as the Paris Agreement and the SDGs. Knowledge of, or experience in a relevant green buildings certification tool (such as EDGE, BREEAM, LEED etc). Experience in sustainable urban development, ideally including affordable housing in emerging markets. Ability to form an in-depth understanding of multifaceted issues. Strong on content, excellent analytical skills and able to interpret and utilise information to inform operational activity, influence a wide variety of stakeholders and attain strategic outcomes. Effective and inspirational communicator, both orally and in written form. Excellent relationship building, collaboration, influencing and listening skills. Strategy planning capabilities, and excellent project and programme design and management capabilities. Strong research and policy skills. Desirable Experience of emerging markets sustainable cities sector and green affordable housing. Experience in the commercial build sector. Experience / understanding of policy and regulatory frameworks related to built environment sector. Understanding of and experience in impact investment, climate finance and/or innovative finance instruments.
