Responsible to: Senior Carer
Purpose: To care for male and female residents in a manner, which respects their dignity and privacy and promotes their independence, working individually and as a team.
Main Responsibilities:
1. To assist residents with all aspects of personal care which includes; using the bath, bed bath or shower, foot and nail care, shampooing hair, shaving, combing or brushing hair, mouth and denture care, use of commode or urinal, toileting, preparing for bed, getting out of bed, washing and dressing.
2. To help and support residents with physical and mental activity, this could involve talking to them, taking them out for a walk or day trip, reading to them, writing on their behalf, assisting with their hobbies and recreation activities.
3. To support residents and their families to identify and achieve agreed outcomes and assist to reflect on outcomes.
4. Assist with serving residents meals and other domestic duties you are qualified to undertake.
5. To assist and support during end stages of life, showing empathy, understanding and compassion.
6. To answer nurse call alarms, greet visitors and answer the door.
7. To maintain confidentiality on all aspects of care and your work within the Home.
8. To liaise with relatives and residents' friends with a good understanding of effective communication.
9. To comply with Care Inspectorate, Fire, COSHH and Environmental Health regulations.
10. To comply with Citation Health and Safety, and Employee booklets.
11. To liaise with other care and health professionals including GP’s, district nurses, Social Workers and allied health professionals.
12. To have a working knowledge of the Arberglen’s policies and procedures.
13. To ensure care notes, and any other form of written report that affects your work are read and kept up to date.
14. To manage the responsibilities and duties of the key worker system.
15. To be registered with SSSC currently or willing to undertake all necessary qualifications to achieve registration with SSSC.
16. To undergo internal and external training as required.
17. To attend and contribute to staff meetings when required.
18. To give clinical care to residents as authorised, trained and directed.
19. To assist with medication as directed by senior.
In addition to the responsibilities listed above it may be necessary to perform other duties not listed. Consideration will be given to your skills and status when requesting you perform these duties. If required to cover nightshift hours these are wakeful duties.
This role requires an enhanced Criminal Records Check (PVG) and therefore applicants must meet the criteria for working with vulnerable adults.
