The role
Are you passionate about science and looking to make a real impact? We're seeking a dedicated Laboratory Assistant to join our dynamic team here at United Utilities. In this key role, you'll be at the heart of our laboratory production environment, playing a crucial part in delivering high-quality analytical results every day.
Job Accountabilities
1. Working within a team of 12 to 35 colleagues you’ll be preparing samples and performing straightforward analytical techniques.
2. You'll be responsible for receiving, registering, and distributing samples, as well as some preparation and scheduling tasks. You'll work closely with various teams across UU to meet tight deadlines while ensuring compliance with customer requirements and regulatory standards.
3. Your duties will also include maintaining equipment, staying informed about best practices and regulatory updates, and participating in straightforward technical activities to support your learning and development.
4. This is a great entry level role for someone who is enthusiastic about a scientific discipline as you’ll gain hands-on experience and enhance your skills in a regulated lab environment. Many of our Laboratory Assistants are now Scientists & Laboratory Team Leaders/Managers.
Knowledge and Skills
What will make you successful in the role? You’ll need to demonstrate the below:
* Education: 5 GCSEs (A-C) in Maths, English, and a Science/Technology subject.
* Experience: Basic understanding of ISO 17025, ISO 5667-3, and related regulatory requirements.
* Technical Skills: Proficient with IT systems, tools, and databases, including LIMS & MS Office.
* Soft Skills: Strong communication, planning, and organisational skills.
* Self-Motivation: You’ll be flexible and thrive working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Desirable Criteria:
Previous laboratory experience is advantageous but not essential.
Additional Information:
Analytical standby requirements will apply once training is complete.
