Role Overview
On behalf of our client, a reputable civil engineering contractor operating primarily within the energy, infrastructure, and flood protection sectors, we are seeking to appoint a Commercial Manager to join their commercial team on a permanent basis. This role will oversee projects located throughout Scotland.
Key Responsibilities
Communication
* Maintain effective communication with the Framework Director, Commercial Managers, project teams, and the Divisional Commercial Manager.
Reporting
* Prepare management reports for presentation to the senior leadership team.
Staff Management
* Address staff-related matters, including succession planning, recruitment, development, behaviour and attitude, competency, retention, and staff allocation.
Supply Chain
* Act as the commercial contact for key supply chain partners through pre-contract meetings, contract vetting, and involvement in subcontract documentation.
Audits and Feedback
* Ensure audits are conducted and provide feedback to the business as required.
Client Interaction
* Provide commercial input into contracts with clients and, where necessary, their representatives.
* Attend regular meetings with senior client representatives and build strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
Commercial Guidance
* Offer commercial advice to Commercial Managers on project-related issues and contribute to regional commercial discussions and reviews.
Project Strategy
* Participate in discussions regarding project performance and contribute commercial insights to project strategies.
Dispute and Insurance Management
* Assist in identifying and managing disputes.
* Prepare and negotiate insurance claims with insurers’ representatives.
Engagement of Consultants
* Agree terms, engage legal and commercial consultants, and monitor their accounts.
Subcontract Documentation
* Review and vet subcontract documents, providing input where necessary.
Essential Requirements
Education
* Degree-level qualification (minimum) in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
Experience
* Proven experience working on civil engineering projects is essential due to the nature of the role.
Key Skills
* Demonstrable ability to build and maintain strong working relationships.
* Proficient with various forms of contracts and standard methods of measurement.
* Exceptional numeracy skills.
* Strong IT skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Other Requirements
* A full UK driving licence.
* Willingness to travel as required.
