MULTISKILLED HOUSEKEEPER / PORTER
A vacancy with the Community Estates and Facilities Team for aHousekeeper / Porter Multiskilled worker is now available.
The Vacancy is a Full Time Position 37.5 hours per week. A variety of shift patterns from 06.30 to 19.30 pm, these will also include weekend working and Bank Holidays.
It is essential that aFull Clean Driving Licenceis held.
Physically Fit the role is very busy and there is lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling involved as standard activities.
Based at Bexhill Hospital and other Bexhill sites, the post holder does require aFull Clean Driving Licencefor use of the Portering Vehicle to take deliveries, or to work from other Community Sites located geographically from Hailsham to Rye.
This position is to support the very busy services in Community Estates and Facilities.
This position is Full Time but will also allow the post holder to apply for employment through the Temporary Workforce Services (TWS) for additional working hours.
Personable and dependable as a Porter you may be the first contact with staff of all levels, patients, relatives and visitors to our sites.
Security on the sites, often will be a call to the Porter team first.
FULL TRAINING WILL BE GIVEN TO THE APPOINTED CANDIDATE.
The main duties of the job are both Housekeeping and Portering as determined and agreed by Community Estates and Facilities Manager in liaison with professional colleagues.
To clean defined areas within Clinical and Non Clinical areas/communal areas to the highest identified standards of cleanliness following the laid down policies and procedures.
To provide portering duties in the community, which will cover the full range of portering duties and in addition to this there will be estates maintenance duties such as outside cleaning / sweeping / gardening etc. according to policies and procedures and as directed within the East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust.

Key duties and responsibilities
Housekeeping
• Removal of all foul/soiled linen and refuse to designated areas.
• The cleaning, changing and remaking of all patients’ beds/trolleys, where applicable.
• Dust control/vacuuming/buffing floors
• Damp mopping floors
• Damp dusting all fixtures, fittings and furniture
• Cleaning of all bathroom and sanitary fixtures and fittings
• Replenish supplies as necessary.
• To undertake isolation/specialist cleaning as required.
• To clean all equipment and work areas within Housekeeping Department.
• To ensure correct use of all materials, machinery, equipment and fittings as per policies and procedures.
• Dep and Infectious cleaning to include Hydrogen Peroxide Cleaning.
Catering
• Collection of patients’ water jugs, catering glasses, wash and refill.
• Collection of meal trolley from servery, and take to patients
• Collection of crockery/cutlery and wash crockery at ward level
• To assist with heating and temperature probing of meals
• Prepare and distribute beverages to patients in designated areas.
Portering
• To deal with all enquiries from Visitors /patients/staff / using appropriate method i.e. phone, verbally.
• Receive and check stock deliveries from internal and external sources in accordance with departmental guidelines, where applicable. Post room duties.
• Report mechanical defects and repairs in conjunction with Team Leader.
• Monitoring of medical gasses.
• External maintenance duties
• Unlocking and locking of sites.
• Movement of equipment and materials.
• Transportation of goods and foodstuffs as required.
• Management of waste and recycling.
• Ensure observation of hygiene legislation and internal policies.
• To be trained in emergency first aid and resuscitation.
• Health and Safety procedures across the community sites
• Some painting and decorating duties.
• Attend in-service training as required.
• To advise Team Leaders/Manager of any Security issues.
• Employees must take responsible care and be aware of the responsibilities placed on them under the Health & Safety at Work Act etc 1974 and to ensure that agreed Safety procedures are carried out to maintain a safe environment for employees, patients and visitors.
• Ad-hoc duties as required.
Portering
· Deliveries - to provide a stores inward / outward service, including NHS Logistics deliveries and non-stock ordered items. Collection and delivery service as required for internal & external mail, packages, specimens, patients folders etc.
· Equipment, furniture and fittings - patient related equipment to be clean and in good repair, minor repairs to be undertaken by the portering team, other defects to be reported via the Help Desk as required. Furniture and other equipment to be removed around the hospitals when and where required. Stores/refuse/linen to be delivered and removed as required.
· Medical Gas Cylinders - the stock control of medical gases to Bexhill site, rotating stock, ordering, delivery of empty/full cylinders as required,
· Medical Gas Piped System – day-to-day management of the piped medical gas system to the Irvine Unit. Monitoring and recording Bar pressure, changing cylinder banks when necessary, ordering further supplies as required. To respond and deal with all alarm calls, reporting any defects to helpdesk as required.
· Emergency Procedures - to attend the appropriate ward or department immediately with the appropriate equipment and assistance upon hearing the alarms for: aggression/panic, major incident, lift breakdown, fire alarms.
· Liquid Nitrogen – decant as necessary for OPD clinics returning any unused at the end of the day, ordering further supplies as necessary.
· Security - Respond to suspicious incidents; maintain a safe environment by patrolling hospital complex and checking security of departments. Record and report incidents to Security Advisor via Team Leader. To liaise with Police in response to crime, violence or intruders and assist hospital staff when called upon.
· Drive the Trust vehicle in a safe manner around the site, reporting any faults / damage to vehicle to team Leader / Manager
· At weekends, maintain cleanliness of site appropriate equipment, Mechanical Sweeper, Mechanical Vacuum, Gardening and use of Ride on Mower, Strimmer, Hedge Trimmer emptying outside bins, removing rubbish and leaves from entrances, steps and pathways. Laying of Salt and clearing of Ice and Snow Washing exterior site signage, and Trust vehicles
· Other duties: to perform other duties as directed by the Community Estates and Facilities Manager appropriate to the role and responsibilities of a Porter role. To be flexible within the drawn up and agreed rota and be prepared to cover as and when required to maintain hospital portering services. To carry out any other duties that is reasonable as required.
