Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, skilled doctor to join our cardiology team at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LTHTR). This post is based at Royal Preston Hospital (RPH). It is a replacement appointment, and the successful applicant will work closely as part of a dynamic cardiology team within the trust as a Cardiology Specialty Doctor. The role involves supporting the delivery of invasive and non-invasive cardiology practices at Chorley and South Ribble District General Hospital and Royal Preston Hospital. The post holder will have the opportunity to gain comprehensive experience in all aspects of cardiology, with encouragement for personal and professional development over a three-year development plan.
Main duties include active participation in training medical staff across both sites, providing high-quality in-service and organized training to support the trust’s ambition to develop its teaching and academic activities within the newly appointed cardiology team. The post also involves providing middle grade support to Consultant Cardiologists, with potential contribution to the temporary pacing rota. Monthly departmental meetings cover echocardiography and clinical cases. The trust supports continuing medical education, offering time and financial support for these activities. The post holder will receive full support to develop specialist interests aligned with divisional plans and service development, with previous incumbents having published and presented at various meetings, some progressing to consultant roles. There is strong support for career advancement through ST training or CESR pathways.

Our modern education centres are based at both Royal Preston and Chorley and South Ribble Hospital sites, offering excellent library and study facilities, including PC/internet support for hospital doctors, GPs, and other medical practitioners. The in-house Resuscitation Training Team provides internal and external life support training at all levels.
