Main duties of the job
Working as part of the Urgent & Inpatient Leadership Team, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operational management and leadership of the following services:
* Haytor acute ward (16 beds)
* Salus acute ward (16 beds)
* Torbay & Teignmouth Home Treatment Teams
You will support these teams to deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care to people who require support and treatment in relation to their mental health. Alongside the Operational Manager and Clinical Team Leaders, you will play a key part in ensuring that our services are a positive place to work and receive care.
Job responsibilities
The Senior Nurse Manager (SNM) will work as an integral part of the Local Delivery Management Team. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that the operational and performance management of the urgent care function, which may include rehabilitation services (where configured in the LDU), and other core services within the urgent care pathway. They will ensure that the work of clinical staff is to the highest standards of evidence-based practice, implement quality and safety standards, and the development of clinical pathways. You will be required to provide efficient and effective day-to-day management in the delivery of clinical care, ensuring best use of resources available for people with serious mental illnesses in the acute period, and their care. You will be expected to provide a high level of managerial and clinical supervision to staff from a variety of professional backgrounds to ensure that a high quality of care is provided at all times.
The SNM will ensure that clinical processes take place in line with practice standards, which will include assessment, planning, implementation, and review, and that robust and consistent risk management processes are in place across the LDU. They will be responsible for the management of resources to deliver services that meet the required financial, performance, and quality standards, which will feed into the Directorate Governance assurance process via the LDU reporting structures. You will promote a culture based on the principles of recovery, choice, and personalised care. Patients and key supports/carers will be invited to take an active role in decision-making about their treatment and care, and their involvement is welcomed as part of ongoing service development.
Person Specification
Experience
* Experience of healthcare management or equivalent.
* Experience in the assessment and formulation of Care Plans, Assessment and Monitoring of Patient Care.
* Experience in the development, management, co-ordination of staff and services.
* Experience of liaising with other disciplines, agencies, and providers to assess, deliver and monitor services for clients in an Inpatient setting.
* Experience of teaching or delivering training.
* Experience of providing supervision and appraisal.
* Previous experience in a leadership role.
* Experience of undertaking audits.
* Experience and proven track record of managing unit budgets. Management of proven service development and quality improvement.
* Experience of working within Urgent and Inpatient Care Pathway.
* Management and leadership experience within Urgent and Inpatient Care Pathway.
Qualifications
* Professional Registered Nurse (Mental Health) Degree, or equivalent experience.
* Registration with the NMC.
* Management or Leadership qualification.
