Job Purpose
The Project Engineering Manager leads a team of civil engineers who provide design and engineering management services to all markets and technologies within the RES Group, with a focus on adding value and managing risk to the business.The Project Engineering Manager ensures that the team provides high quality and effective support to BESS (battery energy storage system), solar, wind and green hydrogen teams in the following areas:
1. Preliminary engineering and assessment, including layout design, during the development phase of projects
2. Management and coordination of both civil and multi-disciplinary design and engineering activities during the detailed design stages of construction projects
3. Production of contract technical information (eg technical specifications) and review of associated third-party design compliance.
4. Coordination of engineering governance and technical solutions across different RES markets to maintain a holistic and consistent approach to promoting best practice
5. Safety in design, including leading and coordinating RES’ responsibilities as Principal Designer, in accordance with the CDM Regulations (or as appropriate for national equivalent legislation)
6. Leadership in areas of continuous improvement and application of innovative capabilities and technologies
The Project Engineering Manager performs both project work and management activities. This will include all types of activities undertaken by the Project Engineering Manager’s team, with particular focus on areas such as detailed design management and continuous improvement, where experience and technical competence are of particular value. Organizational Context The Project Engineering Manager reports to the Head of Civil Engineering, who manages wider Group Civil Engineering team, which additionally performs detailed civil design and assessment services across RES Group. The Group Civil Engineering team forms part of the Group Engineering Department and supports all RES Regional Businesses across all phases of low carbon projects. In a changing global market RES needs to achieve cost parity with conventional generation and fuel growth of renewable energy. We have a role to ensure effective knowledge sharing across the RES Group and to reduce cost through innovative engineering solutions that achieve a balance between risk and cost. The department also has a key role in supporting RES to diversify into new markets and technologies. In support of the above, the Project Engineering Manager focuses on design management and interfacing with internal and external stakeholders at all levels. Key Accountabilities The Project Engineering Manager must:
7. Lead a team of civil engineers delivering design and engineering management activities to meet the safety, quality, cost and programme requirements of projects and the wider business
8. Ensure that team capabilities and resources are managed to meet the business needs
9. Ensure that the team maintains a thorough appreciation of technology as applied to RES projects through appropriate training and experience
10. Develop and maintain the team management systems and processes to ensure efficiency and compliance with the business needs
11. Provide risk mitigation to support effective management of risk exposure across the RES Group
12. Coordinate best practice across markets and business units in the RES Group
Knowledge you will need
13. Sound knowledge of civil engineering principles and their application to the renewable energy sector

15. Working knowledge of relevant standards and regulations

Qualifications you need
28. Honours degree in an engineering discipline or related subject
29. Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Civil Engineers (preference)
