Join McLaughlin and Harvey’s Trainee programme and you’ll gain a nationally recognised qualification coupled with invaluable hands-on experience, ready to begin your career in one of the most exciting industries around As a Trainee Design Manager you will undertake a degree in Construction and develop into the role of a Design Manager who is responsible for negotiating and concluding a contract for the supply of work, goods, materials and services. During the development period the Trainee Design Manager will assist the Design Managers and carry out the following duties: Assist the Design Managers with the drawing and document control systems and protocols and liaise with the Document Controllers. Assist the Design Manager and Commercial Team in preparing and developing the procurement schedule. Attend the project design team meetings and design coordination workshops. Assist the Design Manager, Project Managers and Quantity Surveyors in reviewing scope of all variation and change control requests. Build Health & Safety awareness to eliminate health and safety risks in the design and financial risks during construction. Assist the Design Managers with on-site preparation and management of the site Quality Assurance. Liaise with all members of the Site team, e.g. Project Managers, Site Managers, Quantity Surveyors & Building Services Managers. What will I study? You will be enrolled onto a Graduate Apprenticeship Scheme with a local university, and you will study BSc (Hons) Construction and the Built Environment. How do I know if it’s right for me? High personal standards of professionalism at all times particularly in relation to health and safety culture Commitment to studying towards professional qualification Willingness to develop your existing skills and acquire new ones Ability to work independently and in a team, with a dedicated approach to meeting deadlines Eligibility to work and live permanently in the UK Hold a full UK Driving Licence (desirable) or access to private/public transport How will I spend an average working week? You’ll spend one day a week attending university studying towards your interested degree. It’s not all about study and exams though. When you’re not in University you’ll be putting into practice what you’ve learned by working with experienced colleagues on a range of high-profile projects. You will get responsibility from an early stage in your career and will play a key role in helping deliver projects on time and under budget. SQA Highers at ABBB or equivalent; A-Levels at ABC or BBB; Foundation Apprenticeship in Civil Engineering in conjunction with SQA Highers at AAB.
