The Corneal Nursing Team in St Paul's Ophthalmology Department has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Nurse to join our team. We have a vacancy for a Registered Nurse who is keen to develop their role and skills and has a passion for working with visually impaired patients.
We are a progressive team which participates in Research and Audit and is constantly striving to provide a high-quality service for our patients.
It is an extremely busy and demanding specialty but interesting and varied, including Nurse-led clinics, Corneal Crosslinking, Excimer laser service, and Corneal Fluorescein Angiography. Our patients include children as well as adults.

Main duties of the job
The role will include:
1. Participating in Corneal Led Clinics
2. Assisting in the running/performing Crosslinking Service
3. Performing Corneal Fluorescein Angiography/IV infusions
4. Assisting the Lead Nurse to develop the Nurse-led Service and deputising whenever necessary.
5. Acting as a mentor for junior staff/student nurses/apprenticeships
6. Assisting in the smooth running of the clinics.
7. Contributing to Research, Audit and Practice Development

Job responsibilities
1. Manage the department and deputise in the absence of the Lead Nurse
2. Assist in ensuring the safe running of the department and adequate staff cover.
3. Contribute to the cost-effective control of resources and ensuring adequate pharmacy supplies.
4. Work in a collaborative manner with other departments
5. Participate in promoting an active learning environment for student Nurses
6. Take part in Nursing Audit and Research and continually monitor levels of care through benchmarking and initiate changes as required.
7. Provide a Nurse-led service including clinics, Crosslinking and I.V. Angiography/Cannulation.
8. Participate in Corneal Imaging in the absence of Imaging Staff.
9. Undertake corneal procedures e.g. insertion of punctal plugs, removal of ingrowing eyelashes.
10. Provide patient education and post-operative advice for Corneal procedures/surgeries.
