Role Overview:
The CMM Programmer / Calibration Engineer will be primarily responsible for programming, operating, and maintaining Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) using Zeiss Calypso, Prismo, and Mitutoyo CMM systems. The role also involves managing the internal calibration processes, ensuring all gauges, measurement tools, and metrology equipment are correctly maintained and meet required quality standards. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring precision and accuracy in the measurement of remanufactured engine components.
Key Responsibilities:
CMM Programming & Operation:Develop and write CMM programs using Zeiss Calypso, Prismo, and Mitutoyo software to inspect precision-engineered components.
Conduct first-off, in-process, and final inspections of engine components, ensuring compliance with industry and customer standards.
Analyse CMM measurement data and generate reports to support the quality and manufacturing teams.
Troubleshoot and optimize existing CMM programs for efficiency and accuracy.
Calibration & Quality Assurance:
Take ownership of the internal calibration function, ensuring all gauges, air gauges, and metrology equipment are calibrated and meet compliance requirements.
Maintain and manage the calibration room, ensuring a controlled and organized environment for measurement and quality control.
Work closely with the quality and production teams to support continuous improvement initiatives.
Develop and maintain calibration schedules, documentation, and records in accordance with industry and company standards.
Implement best practices in metrology and measurement techniques, ensuring repeatability and reliability.
Surface Finishing & Inspection:
Utilize various inspection tools and gauges, including air gauges, to measure surface finishes and critical dimensions.
Assess surface roughness, dimensional accuracy, and geometric tolerances of remanufactured components.
Support root cause analysis and corrective actions in response to quality issues.
Key Requirements:
Proven experience as a CMM Programmer, ideally within an automotive, precision engineering, or powertrain manufacturing environment.
Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with Zeiss Calypso, Prismo, and Mitutoyo CMM systems. (Preferred)
Experience in writing and modifying CMM programs for complex precision components.
Familiarity with surface finish measurement techniques and various gauging methods, including air gauges.
Understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) principles.
Experience in calibration and metrology, with the ability to manage internal gauge and measurement equipment calibration.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications.
Knowledge of ISO standards and quality management systems is desirable.
Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to liaise between quality, engineering, and production teams.
