Specific Job Description: A systems engineer is required to support the development of a multiple award winning ATM system. This is an opportunity to work on a programme with an exciting pipeline of international work and provide Air Traffic Control Officers (ATCO) with tools to enhance their operation. The successful candidate does not need to be familiar with ATM (although it would be an advantage as on-the-job training will be provided as required. The systems engineer will work in a rapidly changing environment, delivering solutions and deliverables of a high quality to wide range of challenging problems. They will work as part of an agile team performing all aspects of systems engineering throughout the development life cycle to meet sprint milestones. Typical Duties: • Working with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), product architects and product requirements to define low level / software requirements (e.g. requirements gathering, requirements analysis, requirements workshops, etc.) • Conducting functional and technical analysis, as required, to shape the system design • Producing detailed engineering artefacts such as: • Engineering Plans and Processes Documents • System Element Descriptions • Control and Monitoring Design Documents • Interface Design Documents (IDDs) • Failure Modes Effect Analysis (FMEA) • Safety artefacts associated with ED109A • Preparing operational instructions / training material for the software application and/or supporting tools. • Assisting with the definition of overarching product concepts and software architecture. • Assisting the investigation of problems identified during test and operations, including problem diagnosis and resolution • Reviewing test artefacts such as test cases and test procedures • Applying the appropriate standards, processes and principles in their daily activities • Assisting with impact assessments for product releases or change requests in the pipeline Required Skills: • Experience of requirements management and associated software (e.g. DOORS) • Experience of software architecture within a real-time and/or safety-related system and/or mission critical environment • Experience of the complete system life cycle from problem definition through to deployment • Experience of the adherence to process within a software development environment • Experience of the ability to work as part of a Multi-functional product team (Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Test, Engineering Management) • Enthusiastic self-starter with good attention to detail and verbal communication skills. • Excellent written communication through the use of e-mail, presentations and reports • Comprehensive understanding of various software development methodologies • Ability to work with due attention to schedule and cost constraints Desired Skills: • Experience of Agile development (e.g. Scrum, SAFe) • Experience of Atlassian tools (e.g. Jira, Crucible, Confluence) • Experience of working with a number of external stakeholders and suppliers, working across organisational boundaries as appropriate • Knowledge of Air Traffic Management within the UK or international markets. • Knowledge of systems / software design tools (e.g. Enterprise Architect, Cameo Systems Modeller) • Knowledge of infrastructure as code and container technologies (e.g. Puppet, Docker) • Knowledge of COTS integration technologies (e.g. Apache Camel, Apache Kafka) • Knowledge of Control and Monitoring technologies (e.g. SNMP v2c, SNMP v3) WHAT DO WE DO FOR YOU?
