Third Sector Leaders Kirklees is looking for a passionate and people-focused individual to join our volunteering team as Volunteer and Engagement Officer (maternity cover). In this role, you'll support the development of inclusive and accessible volunteering opportunities across Kirklees, working with individuals and community organisations to promote good practice and break down barriers.
What Success Looks Like:
Based in Kirklees | 24 hours/week | 12-month fixed-term contract
£27,646.22 FTE / £17,932.68 actual
You’ll thrive in this role if you're able to:
* Build strong relationships with a wide range of people, including those from underrepresented groups.
* Help individuals with additional needs confidently step into volunteering.
* Champion volunteering through events, workshops, and creative outreach.
* Support community organisations with practical tools, training, and advice.
* Represent TSL Kirklees as a positive, proactive, and collaborative force in the local sector.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage and promote volunteer opportunities via the TSL Kirklees website and social media.
* Offer tailored 1:1 support for potential volunteers, in person, online or by phone.
* Deliver workshops and presentations in schools, colleges, and community settings.
* Work with organisations to develop volunteer policies and recruitment processes.
* Develop partnerships to increase engagement with disadvantaged communities.
* Promote employer-supported volunteering with local businesses.
* Coordinate and attend community events, recruitment drives and celebrations (e.g. Volunteers' Week).
* Collect and share real-life volunteer stories to inspire and inform.
Essential Skills & Experience:
* Excellent verbal and written communication across diverse audiences.
* Experience of working with or supporting volunteers.
* Strong understanding of barriers faced by disadvantaged groups.
* Confident using Microsoft Office, social media, and digital tools.
* A flexible, empathetic and inclusive approach to working with others.
* Willingness to travel across Kirklees and occasionally work evenings/weekends.
* Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain).
Desirable:
* Experience delivering training or managing events.
* Knowledge of Kirklees’ geography and communities.
* Ability to speak an additional community language.
* Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
