About The Role
Based at the Council’s Depot in Fareham, you will be responsible for the procurement, management and operation of the Council’s vehicle fleet and management of the Council Depot.
You’ll hold and safeguard the Council’s Operator Licence and ensure that systems, procedures and monitoring arrangements are in place and maintained effectively to ensure legal compliance with regulations. You'll provide supportive leadership to a team of Vehicle Fitters in the Transport Repair Workshop.
You’ll be the Council’s professional and technical lead on Transport Management, reporting to and advising the Head of Streetscene on matters of concern and significant legislative changes.
You’ll control the financial and operational performance of the section ensuring best value principles are maintained and that the Council’s standing orders and financial procedures are complied with.
You’ll ensure that Health and Safety is promoted within the whole workforce and that risk assessments and safe operating procedures are in place and reviewed at regular intervals. A culture of monitoring and training especially regarding Health and Safety should also be part of everyday life.
About You
We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, innovative and will positively contribute to driving our Transport service forward, working as an integral member of the Streetscene team.
As a minimum, you’ll need to hold a National Transport Manager CPC qualification and have relevant experience in Transport Management.
It is important to us that you have a Category ‘C’ licence and a HGV Motor Vehicle Technician/Mechanic Qualification or equivalent.
You’ll have an honest and straightforward style, excellent communication and negotiation abilities and share the value that customers are at the heart of all that we do. Experience in the public sector would be an advantage as would a good understanding of Office 365.
A valid driving licence and access to your own transport is essential.
