Job Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative Volunteer Project Manager to join the Public Participation Team at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust. This role focuses on expanding the existing SaTH volunteering services to support the Trust’s discharge services.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Recruit volunteers to support SaTH’s discharge planning processes to speed up the safe discharge of patients from hospital to their home.
2. Work closely with the Trust’s Clinical Site and Discharge teams.
3. Develop processes for volunteers to telephone patients following their discharge to identify and support any additional needs that may arise in the first few days at home.
4. Collaborate with the local community and voluntary sector for ongoing support to reduce the risk of patient readmission to the hospital.
5. Produce weekly update reports on progress.
6. Arrange volunteer transport for suitable patients when NHS transport is unavailable.
7. Work with Helpforce to create evaluation measures, outcome reports, and identify key stakeholders.
Main Duties:
1. Develop and implement the Trust’s Volunteer Discharge Project plan, ensuring measurable milestones and validation points.
2. Recruit and manage volunteers within the Volunteer Discharge Project and provide support in wider volunteer schemes.
3. Develop and deliver induction and ongoing training programs for volunteers.
4. Provide ongoing support and advice to volunteers and staff managing volunteers.
5. Communicate effectively with staff to engage them with the Volunteer Discharge Project.
6. Provide regular project updates to the Trust and Helpforce to meet grant criteria.
7. Ensure the volunteers’ Better Impact database is fully utilized and developed.
8. Engage with local organizations and communities to promote the Volunteer Discharge Project.

The post holder will be part of the Public Participation Department, which includes Community Engagement, SaTH Charity, and Volunteers. Within this role, you will be part of a small volunteer team and support over 300 volunteers within the Trust. The Public Participation Team is based at William Farr House, Shrewsbury.
