We are looking for a Wastewater Advisor to join our growing team.
You will deliver technical and analytical support to the Regulatory Flow team by running and reviewing compliance reporting data, assisting with internal and external reporting, and maintaining up to date records of regulatory, audit and performance records.
What you'll do
In this varied role, you will:
1. provide analytical support to the Regulatory Flow team, enabling identification trends in performance and compliance to allow for early rectification
2. monitor for future changes in relevant Environmental regulations, guidance and code of practices, and assess and communicate the implications for Wessex Water, allowing for measures to be implemented to maintain compliance in a timely manner with the least cost and risk
3. represent Wessex Water to professional, industry or regulatory bodies where appropriate to share information and best practice, monitor and evaluate technical, regulatory, and related implementation issues/developments, and identify best practice to help maintain and improve compliance
4. establish, maintain and communicate policies and quality management systems to ensure we understand and meet our environmental quality objectives and regulatory outputs
5. advise, influence and support Area Scientists and Area Operational teams in achieving required standards, handling significant incidents and liaison with Regulators (eg, Environment Agency)
6. liaise with Engineering and Operations on capital schemes
7. plan and manage the MCERTS certification programme, while also identifying upcoming sites and booking in MCERTS site inspections
8. assist with collating and reporting compliance with statutory quality regulations for internal and external contacts, including coordinating correspondence to and from external regulators.
What you'll need
We are looking for:
9. a degree or equivalent in a science or STEM subject
10. detailed knowledge of relevant environmental regulation, including EPR legislation, EPA, the Water Industry Act, UWWTR, etc
11. detailed knowledge of wastewater treatment processes
12. at least five years' experience in a relevant field, with proven record and experience in managing a team
13. understanding of structure and implementation of quality management systems
14. the ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels, and outside the organisation, such as regulators, technical bodies, and the public
15. effective communication and the ability to work well in a team
16. decision making skills
17. computer literate, including Microsoft Suite
18. detailed knowledge of wastewater processes
19. the ability to represent us to industry and professional bodies
20. good report writing and presentation skills
21. working knowledge of budget control and finance principles.
