This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and proactive Assistant Operational Manager to join the MSK Directorate.
You will be a motivated manager with a proven track record of planning outpatients and theatre cover. You will have experience in managing RTT pathways, validation, people management and be a flexible team player. You will be able to prioritise your own and your team's workload at short notice to support services facing constantly changing priorities.
This is a unique development role with opportunity to gain the experience needed to progress to more senior operational management by enabling the successful applicant to develop their skill set through exposure and experience of Trauma & Orthopaedics, Pain and Rheumatology, within a newly formed MSK Directorate.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will provide essential operational assistance to the Directorate for the day to day management of the MSK Services at UHSussex Hospitals NHS Trust.
Providing management support to the service in the delivery of elective and outpatient targets and ensuring efficiency in all aspects of output.
The post holder will contribute and support the Operational and General Managers with any administrative or business planning requirements within the Surgical Division, and represent the Directorate at RTT & Performance meetings as requested.
Job responsibilities
Main duties by factor:
Communications and Relationship skills
* Communicate with all staff groups within the designated areas.
* Communicate with the Directorate Managers, report and facilitate the development of skill mix and service development reviews.
* Promote workforce planning in line with the activity and skill requirements of the Division.
* Provide information to the Directorate Managers to facilitate and develop process for planning workforce initiatives.
* Work with the Directorate Managers in supporting the development of robust systems, processes and procedures.
Analytical and Judgemental skills
* Under the direction of the Directorate Manager maintain governance systems and support Clinical Directors, Clinical Leads and Senior Nurses.
* At the request of the Directorate Manager, ensure data is recorded after risk assessments take place and that the register is maintained.
* Support the Directorate Manager with investigations and any complaints or incidents required.
* Improve / implement working practices following complaints to ensure that lessons are learnt.
* Implement Health and Safety Procedures.
* Monitor and ensure the goals set out in the CQUIN payment framework are delivered.
* To validate and track patient pathways to ensure RTT compliance / completion.
* Ensuring all departmental capacity in theatres/outpatients is fully utilised and flexing clinicians to ensure maximum capacity utilisation.
Planning and Organisational skills
* To support the Directorate Managers in the planning, development and provision of General and Specialist services across sites.
* To deputise for the Directorate Managers as appropriate.
* To represent the Directorate Managers at meetings as requested.
* To provide cover during times of leave as requested by the Directorate Managers.
* To undertake ad hoc project work as required.
* To oversee the speciality rota and support the rota co-ordinator in ensuring produced 6 weeks in advance.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Degree or Diploma, or with proven and equivalent relevant knowledge and experience.
* Experience of continued learning and professional development to postgraduate diploma or equivalent level.
Knowledge & Experience
* Proven evidence of effective people management and leadership skills.
* Evidence of the ability to source, interpret and report on highly complex data.
* Evidence of managing operational arrangements to a high degree of accuracy, timeliness and effectiveness.
* Experience of working within a complex, varied and unpredictable environment.
