EHS Advisor (Environmental & Process Safety)

This is a site-based role at Worthing.
We are seeking an experienced professional to join a high performing team on one of GSK’s flagship sites. You will develop a truly engaging EHS culture where everyone works together to reduce risks in an environment which allows people to be at their best.
The successful applicant will be responsible for overall management and improvement of EHS performance across the site, working with the EHS Director and other team members as appropriate. Although the position does not include any direct reports, there may be an opportunity to manage permanent and interim contract-worker staff and associated budgets. This position will include working with the Global EHS function and other GSK sites within the network in the UK and globally.
In this role you will:
1. Provide expert EHS advice to the Worthing site in order to maintain and improve site EHS Performance, support site operations and implement Core EHS Programmes (Safety Leadership, Environmental Sustainability and Global Health programmes).
2. Lead integration of EHS into site operations through Independent Business Monitoring audits, chairing investigations for accidents and significant near-misses, and for sponsoring resulting preventive actions.
3. Provide managers with the technical guidance, support and training to enable them to effectively manage EHS performance within their business area and provide training to enable staff to safely carry out their duties.
4. Maintain effective relationships with EHS stakeholders such as the Health and Safety Executive, Environment Agency and Global GSK functions.
5. Responsible for highly effective communications with all employees within the work area, to build understanding, alignment, and engagement.
6. Deputise for EHS Director or other Subject Matter Experts, where appropriate and based on capability / experience.
Why you?
Qualifications & Skills:
We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
1. NEBOSH Certificate or similar qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Process Safety, or similar qualifications in Environmental management.
2. Prior experience of working in a pharmaceutical manufacturing or other highly regulated technical industry.
3. Graduate degree (in relevant subject) with a broad technical/engineering/scientific skills base.
4. Demonstrated project management expertise and excellent communication across all levels of the organisation.
5. Broad knowledge of the engineering professional environment and associated disciplines/skills.
6. The ability to coach/mentor/inspire site front line leaders, engineers, and technicians in order to ensure they can proactively identify risks and implement robust solutions is a core skill.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
1. Operational knowledge and understanding of manufacturing processes in the pharmaceutical or FMCG or any other high hazard industry.
2. NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Construction Management or Process Safety.
3. Chartered Waste Management or other suitable Sustainability qualification.
4. Experience of management of major accident hazards.
5. Influencing, leadership, and decision-making capabilities.
6. Sound knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturing and utility equipment.
7. Sound working knowledge of the physical infrastructure of a Pharma site and processes.
8. Chartered status in a relevant Engineering, Scientific or Technical discipline.
About Worthing Manufacturing Site:
Manufacturing at the Worthing site is for antibiotics. It is advised that you take this into consideration when deciding to apply for this position.
GSK Worthing Site is a mixed manufacturing site with complex regulatory pressures. Manufacturing processes are highly technical and include high hazard activities.
