The Role: As a Governance and Risk Business Partner you will work closely with the Governance Manager to support the development and delivery of excellent governance, risk management and assurance practices across the organisation, driving continuous improvement. You will also be responsible for executing second-line assurance activities aligned with an approved second line assurance plan, and will work closely with the Data Protection Officer (DPO) to ensure compliance with data protection legislation. What You'll Be Doing: • Governance Expertise: Support the Governance Manager in driving the development and implementation of sound governance frameworks to ensure compliance and effective decision-making. • Risk Management: Be the subject matter expert and custodian of the risk management system, helping embed robust risk management practices and culture across the organisation. • Data Protection: Support the DPO in ensuring compliance with data protection regulations by providing advice and support to colleagues so that data protection risks are appropriately identified, managed and escalated. • Assurance Delivery: Execute robust second-line assurance activities in line with the approved assurance plan to help ensure regulatory compliance, alongside the management of control self-assessments. • Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues across departments to deliver improvements, provide advice, raise awareness and ensure regulatory compliance. • Sector Engagement: Apply your housing sector expertise to shape practices that benefit our communities and stakeholders. The Role: What could a day look like in the life of a Governance and Risk Business Partner look like: As a Governance and Risk Business Partner, your day begins with a morning briefing with the Governance Manager. Together, you discuss the latest governance updates and share your insights on the necessary actions for Broadacres. This collaborative start sets the tone for a proactive and strategic day ahead. You then dive into reviewing how Broadacres meets the NHF Code of Governance. This involves identifying and scrutinising key documents and minutes, and engaging with key stakeholders to debate and agree on actions required to ensure compliance or further enhance governance arrangements. Your analytical skills and attention to detail are crucial in this process. Early afternoon, you shift your focus to risk management. You conduct a thorough review of the latest risk assessments submitted by various departments, identifying any potential risks that may have been overlooked. You then collaborate with colleagues to ensure they understand and effectively implement risk management practices. Your role as a subject matter expert helps embed a robust risk management culture across the organisation. A manager approaches you for data protection advice on an ongoing project. You provide guidance on identifying and managing data protection risks, and they request your continued involvement in the project to help keep it on track. Your expertise in data protection ensures that the project complies with relevant legislation and best practices. To finish your day, you have a planning meeting with a senior manager to commence a second-line assurance review. You gain their input on key risks and areas of concern, which helps you design a tailored approach to the review. You then schedule meetings with their team for the next day to understand their processes and controls before finalizing your testing approach. By the end of the day, you review your progress and plan for the next steps. Your role is dynamic and multifaceted, requiring you to balance strategic thinking with practical implementation. As a Governance and Risk Business Partner, you play a crucial role in ensuring the organisation's governance, risk management, and compliance efforts are effective and aligned with its objectives. What We're Looking For: • Experience: o Experience of working in risk management, assurance, and governance teams. o Experience of supporting businesses in ensuring compliance with data protection regulations. o Experience of working in a regulated environment. o A background in the housing sector is desirable. • Skills: o Strategic thinker with an understanding of how your work connects with organisational objectives. o Analytical mindset with a keen eye for detail to assess challenges and propose solutions. o Skilled in relationship building, fostering strong professional connections with colleagues and stakeholders. o A collaborative approach, engaging with teams to develop and implement improvements. o Using initiative to drive forward change. o Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. o Highly organised with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver projects to tight deadlines. o Proficient in IT tools and an advocate for digital transformation. • Knowledge: o Sound understanding of Governance, assurance and risk principles and practices o Good knowledge of data protection regulations and practices • Other Requirements: o Demonstrates discretion and maintains confidentiality at all times. o Be willing to work from the Northallerton Office a couple of days a week • Qualifications: o Educated to degree level or holds equivalent professional experience. o A GDPR-related qualification, such as Act Now GDPR Practitioner's Certificate or equivalent is desirable. o A Risk Management qualification or IIA qualification is desirable.
