JOB TITLE: Cleaner/Key Holder
LINE MANAGER: Caretaker
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Head Teacher
THE ROLE: To undertake cleaning duties and key holding duties for the school. Duties may include working in all types of rooms, including offices, classrooms, halls, corridors, and toilets. To secure the building each weekday evening as and when required.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF SERVICE:
1. Lone working
2. School cleaners must take holidays in periods of school closure.
3. An identification badge will be provided and must be worn.
4. Protective clothing including rubber gloves must be worn at all times to comply with Health and Safety Regulations.
5. The position will be based at Elton Primary School and at times the individual may have to work across the Trust.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
1. To be responsible for cleaning certain parts of the school site as allocated by the Caretaker and following Health & Safety guidelines.
2. The safe use of chemicals and cleaning materials as instructed by the Caretaker following Health and Safety guidelines and the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
3. To operate cleaning machinery in cleaning soft and hard surfaces, e.g., vacuum cleaners and polishers following Health & Safety guidelines.
4. To maintain all School standards of hygiene and safety of all cleaning equipment and cleaning cupboards in your charge.
5. To report any hazards, defects, and any relevant factors of building or environment safety that may be detrimental to safe working practices and normal school operations, immediately to the Caretaker or Headteacher.
6. To check all doors and windows are locked and secure. To close all fire doors and switch off lights. To engage the intruder alarm and lock the outside gates.
7. Duties to include the following:
1. Vacuum cleaning hard and soft floors
2. Spot cleaning of spillages
3. Wiping furniture, ledges, pipes, paintwork, doors and polishing door glass
4. Emptying and cleaning bins
5. Cleaning toilets including sanitary fittings and surrounds
6. Mopping and spray cleaning hard floor surfaces
7. Wiping and polishing and straightening furniture
8. Replenishing janitorial supplies in toilets, etc.
9. Checking and closing windows, switching off lights after work
10. Work as part of a team and support other members of the cleaning team to meet standards and school objectives
11. Take initiative to perform cleaning and tidying tasks that are not specifically contained within the rota but require attention as part of maintaining overall high standards.
12. Such other duties as may be allocated from time to time.
SUPPORT FOR THE SCHOOL:
1. Be aware of and comply with school policies and procedures relating to child protection, health & safety, security, confidentiality, and data protection. Report all concerns to the appropriate person.
2. Contribute to the overall ethos/aims/work of the school.
3. To participate in performance development procedures and training and attend meetings as requested.
4. Participate in training.
5. Recognise own strengths and areas of expertise and use these to advise and support others.
