Key Responsibilities: Leadership & Strategy : Lead and develop the Family Law practice in the newly established Birmingham office, shaping the direction and growth of the team. Business Development : Play a key role in building a strong client base, leveraging existing relationships and generating new business opportunities to position the Birmingham office as a leading provider of family law services. Complex Case Management : Oversee and manage a caseload of complex family law matters, including divorce, financial settlements, child arrangements, pre-nuptial agreements, and domestic violence cases, often involving high-net-worth individuals and international elements. Team Building : Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing family law team in Birmingham, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment that delivers exceptional client service. Client Relationships : Cultivate and maintain long-lasting relationships with clients, acting as a trusted advisor and providing clear, practical, and strategic legal advice. Court Representation & Negotiation : Represent clients in negotiations, mediations, and family law proceedings, offering expert advocacy in the most complex and sensitive cases. Brand Development : Play a central role in promoting and developing the firm's brand and reputation in the local market, engaging with the wider legal and business communities through networking, events, and thought leadership. Operational Leadership : Contribute to the operational management of the office, ensuring that systems, processes, and resources are aligned to support the growth of the practice. Essential Skills and Experience: Qualified Solicitor with at least 8 years PQE in family law, with prior experience in a senior or leadership role (ideally as a partner or senior associate). Proven track record in managing a complex and varied family law caseload, including financial settlements, high-net-worth cases, child arrangements, and complex divorce matters. Strong business development skills with a proven ability to attract and retain clients, build relationships, and grow a practice from the ground up. Experience leading and mentoring teams, with a focus on fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture. Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to manage sensitive situations and deliver clear, client-focused advice. Strong advocacy skills and experience representing clients in family law proceedings, including at court. A genuine passion for family law and a commitment to providing empathetic and professional support to clients during emotionally challenging times. A network of contacts in the family law sector and a reputation for excellence and professionalism. Desirable Attributes: Membership of Resolution, the Law Society Family Law Panel, or other prestigious family law associations is advantageous. Experience in handling international family law matters, such as cross-border disputes and jurisdictional issues. Knowledge of collaborative law, alternative dispute resolution, or mediation practices would be beneficial. Ability to contribute to the firm's wider strategic goals and office growth in Birmingham.
