General Ledger Accounting Manager

We are recruiting for a career driven and meticulous individual to join our team as a general ledger accounting and financial control manager. This is great for someone who wants to gain experience in running the end-to-end accounting and financial control for our UK General Insurance Market.
You will play a key role in closing the UKGI books and records and maintaining strong financial controls over the balance sheet. You will lead a team and work with different stakeholders across Aviva.
A bit about the job:
The role will be part of the UK&I General Insurance GL Accounting Control & Operations team whose main purpose is to deliver the month-end close for UKGI and Ireland while owning areas of the balance sheet and operating the controls. This team manager role is aligned to the UKGI side of the business.
The post-holder will manage a team while ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the monthly general ledger close together while ensuring that financial control and analytics are completed accurately within agreed timescales and presented monthly for sign off. The role will require close working with another UKGI team manager as the UKGI month-end team are currently split between two team leaders.
You will be required you to lead a team, manage the workload and priorities for the team, have a good understanding of the general ledger, an understanding of data flows into accounting entries, and be able to conduct analytical review of the UKGI balance sheet. This role will work closely with the wider GI Finance teams, in particular Financial Reporting, GL Reconciliations, Reinsurance, Finance Business Partners and Actuarial.
1. Manage a team of 6 people in line with leader expectations and standards.
2. Act as a deputy financial controller for UK General Insurance (Aviva Insurance Limited, Gresham and Ocean Marine).
3. Deliver general ledger close, co-owning with peers.
4. Responsible for the review and approval of journals, data loaders and controls.
5. Oversight and running of month-end and general ledger close processes.
6. Attend governance meetings, owning actions and queries assigned to your team and ensuring they are dealt with in a timely manner.
7. Supporting the resolution balance sheet reconciliation queries in line with service level agreement.
8. Ensure all risks and issues are managed and captured across the team and adhering to risk and governance minimum standards.
9. Owning key controls and ensuring they assessed and continually reviewed.
10. Work closely with internal audit teams, and proactively support the external auditing process.
11. Support the Financial Reporting team over key reporting periods, providing disclosures and information to support the preparation of statutory accounts.
Skills and experience we’re looking for:
12. Experience leading a team and ability to plan and manage team workload and priorities.
13. Qualified accountant or suitable financial experience. Knowledge of IFRS 17 advantageous.
14. Experience of operating strong financial control.
15. Good analytical skills with a curiosity mindset.
16. Strong stakeholder relationship and communication skills.

17. Salary Circa £50,000 (location, skills, experience, and qualifications dependant)
