As a communications and engagement officer covering the NHS Finance portfolio, the post holder will work in a small team delivering an effective communication and engagement function that supports senior leaders and colleagues in NHS finance teams, with a focus on Medicines Value and Access (MVA) - the second-highest single area of NHS expenditure.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will develop content, enable dissemination of key information and build relationships both within and outside the NHS to ensure that patients are reassured by the quality and accessibility of care and treatment, and taxpayers can see the steps taken to secure value for money from everything the NHS spends.
Job responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of Communications and working closely with Finance Directors and the Director of MVA, colleagues across the Finance and Commercial Directorate and the Public Accountability Communications and Engagement function, the successful candidate's deliverables will include:
1. Producing first-class communications materials, to enable effective engagement with the public, patients and patient advocate groups, industry and colleagues working across the health and social care sector.
2. Supporting the Head of and Senior Manager to deliver against communications and engagement priorities, working confidently with senior leaders and external stakeholders.
3. Building an understanding of how NHS finances are managed and utilised, effectively communicating concepts including value, productivity and efficiency including in the area of medicines.
4. Using knowledge and understanding of the pharmaceutical industry to produce written and verbal communications, as well as organising engagement events that support the NHS to strengthen partnerships with the life sciences sector.
Person Specification
Knowledge
* Understanding, knowledge and skill in a range of communications disciplines from the following: strategic communications, internal communications, media relations, events, behaviour change, campaigns, marketing, reputation management, change management, stakeholder engagement, project management and public affairs.
* Some experience of working simultaneously on multiple communications and engagement activities, with excellent project management, planning and coordination across a range of communications and engagement disciplines and channels.
* Basic understanding of the background and aims of current organisational priorities and objectives and understand how communications and engagement can deliver this.
* A willingness to work in a fast-paced environment, delivering against competing priorities and deadlines while also directing the work of teams/individuals.
Skills
* Excellent time management skills with the ability to re-prioritise.
* Skills for communication on complex information and administrative matters, requiring developed interpersonal and oral/written communication skills.
* Ability to pull together comprehensive draft reports, data and letters.
