NCIC Special Care and Community Dental Service is seeking to recruit additional local dental practitioners to the team of experienced dentists participating in the Out of Hours Emergency Dental Service managed by the Trust at the Carlisle Dental Centre.
This scheme provides emergency and urgent care to patients who have been initially triaged by trained dental care professionals and NHS111.
The four-hour sessions are undertaken at the Carlisle Dental Centre Monday- Friday 1800-2200. Weekends and Bank holidays there are three shifts available per day (0900-1300, 1330-1730 and 1800-2200). Shifts are allocated to a bank of clinicians on a rota basis.
The Trust liaises closely with NHS England who commission this service and the Local Professional Network. There is a locally agreed sessional rate with enhancements for Bank Holidays.
This role would suit experienced dentists who wish to contribute in the provision of emergency and urgent care to the local population and to develop and enhance this particular skill.
Main duties of the job
The main role of the Primary Care Dental Officer is to provide emergency and urgent care identified through the dental triage process.
You will be working as part of a small clinical team in a dental surgery at the Carlisle Dental Centre. Patients are triaged in advance by call handlers and trained dental nurses in partner organisations and booked directly into clinic slots.
The duties may under exceptional circumstances need to be beyond the end of the services formal end of 'normal operating hours period' where a late emergency patient presents prior to the service closing or completion of an urgent patient treatment extends beyond the formal service closing time. It is expected that these instances will be very few in number, by exception and where no other clinical alternative is possible to ensure the safety of the patient.
