We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Youth Worker to join a dynamic team at a SEMH school in Oldham. This is an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of young people who require additional support to thrive both academically and socially. As a Youth Worker in a SEMH school, you will provide vital support to students who face challenges related to their emotional and mental health, helping them to build resilience, develop key life skills, and engage in learning. You will work closely with teachers, support staff, and external agencies to ensure the needs of students are met and their well-being is supported in a safe and nurturing environment. Key Responsibilities: Support students with SEMH needs in both group and one-to-one settings Promote positive behaviour and emotional development, using appropriate interventions and strategies Assist in the delivery of personal, social, and emotional development programs Work collaboratively with teaching staff and support teams to create and implement Individual Support Plans (ISPs) tailored to students' needs Help students build social skills, confidence, and self-esteem through structured activities Support the planning and delivery of enrichment activities and after-school programs Provide guidance, mentoring, and positive role modelling for students Work with external professionals such as counsellors, social workers, and psychologists to ensure holistic support for students Ensure a safe and respectful learning environment by managing student behaviour effectively Support the safeguarding and welfare of all students in line with school policiesEssential Criteria: Experience working with young people, preferably within a school or SEMH setting A strong understanding of the challenges faced by students with SEMH needs Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students Patience, empathy, and a non-judgmental attitude A proactive approach to supporting students and creating positive outcomes Ability to work as part of a team and collaborate effectively with colleagues and external agencies A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young peopleDesirable Criteria: A relevant qualification (e.g., Youth Work, Social Care, Psychology, or similar) Experience working with children with SEMH, autism, or other additional needs Level 2 Team Teach certification or a willingness to undertake relevant training Knowledge of behaviour management strategies and interventionsWhy Work With Us?
