SEN Support Assistant to work in a Primary School Teaching personnel are seeking a SEN Support Assistant to work full time in their Primary School with a Year 3 Pupil with PMLD. Working as a Special Educational Needs (SEN) support assistant for a Year 3 pupil with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) is both a challenging and rewarding role. Here are some key aspects to consider before applying for the position: 1. Understanding PMLD Pupils with PMLD often have significant physical disabilities, sensory impairments, and learning needs. Your role will include: Supporting the child with communication, mobility, and interaction. Assisting with personal care (feeding, toileting, dressing). Working with other professionals (speech therapists, occupational therapists) to implement tailored education and care plans. 2. Creating an Inclusive Learning Environment Modify lessons and activities to suit the pupil’s abilities. Use sensory materials and multi-sensory approaches to engage the child. Ensure accessibility by adapting classroom spaces and resources. 3. Collaboration with Teachers and Parents Work closely with the class teacher to adapt lessons. Regular communication with parents to track progress. Attend multi-disciplinary team meetings to discuss the child’s development. 4. Emotional and Behavioural Support Help the pupil with emotional regulation. Use positive reinforcement and patience to manage challenging behaviors.
