We are looking to recruit a substantive Acute Oncology Consultant. This post is for 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week to work within acute oncology.
The applicant will deliver 10 PAs including 2.5 SPA and admin time within acute oncology care to inpatients on the Acute Assessment Unit. The Trust provides an inpatient service for selected non-elective admissions where the reason for admission is primarily related to the patient's underlying malignant diagnosis or its treatment. All admissions are already in receipt of oncology care at the Trust. The normal route of admission is via our 24hr hotline which triages patients and diverts patients to an Acute Trust A&E if appropriate (e.g. chest pain/acute abdominal pain). Those who are admitted usually spend the first 24 - 72 hours on our acute assessment unit.
The successful applicant will review all non-surgical admissions and lead a multidisciplinary ward round reviewing inpatients on the AAU. The Hospitalist is not expected to take oncology treatment decisions which will remain the responsibility of the patient's Oncology team.
