The Role
Are you passionate about sustainability and making a real difference? We’re seeking a motivated Waste Management Workshop Facilitator to lead a team of up to 35 prisoners at HMP Millsike, supporting our environmental sustainability goals through impactful waste management services. This is an opportunity to drive change by enhancing recycling rates, eliminating single-use plastics, and contributing to net-zero targets, while also providing prisoners with valuable skills and qualifications in a growing industry.
As the Waste Management Workshop Facilitator, you’ll manage the waste collection, processing, and disposal operations within the prison, while promoting skills development through WAMITAB qualifications. This role is pivotal in helping prisoners gain employable skills, meet environmental goals, and foster personal accountability.
Key Responsibilities:
* Supervise and mentor prisoners in waste management processes, tailoring support and training to build valuable skills for future employment.
* Support the prison’s sustainability targets, including achieving a 90% recycling rate, eliminating single-use plastics, and working toward net-zero emissions.
* Oversee formal WAMITAB training, ensuring prisoners acquire transferable skills for careers in waste management and recycling.
* Manage waste collection, processing, and disposal across the estate, adhering to safety, security, and environmental standards.
* Oversee inventory and tool safety, ensuring necessary stock levels, proper equipment use, and compliance with security protocols.
* Work closely with contractors for waste services, overseeing activities and ensuring adherence to security measures.
* Foster accountability and self-reflection among prisoners, encouraging them to understand the impact of their actions on the environment and the community.
* Conduct health and safety assessments and enforce safe work practices across waste management operations.
Requirements:
* Proficient in managing teams, providing one-on-one support, and maintaining clear communication.
* Familiar with health and safety standards, including risk assessments and safe handling practices.
* Background in supervising teams in waste management, logistics, or sustainability is highly desirable.
* Passionate about helping individuals develop skills and self-confidence through structured training.
Please note: This role will be known internally as Industries Instructor - Waste Management
Working Hours:
This is a full-time role, 38.5 hours per week, with the following schedule:
* Four days per week: 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM
* One half-day per week: either 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM or 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM
