HMP Thameside is a privately run prison estate located in South-East London. The prison is a remand establishment operated by Serco Ltd.
We have an opening for a Stores Support Officer working primarily in the Stores & Procurement department.
The Stores department is responsible for the purchasing and distribution of essential supplies and services for the smooth running and operation of the prison. This is a key function which facilitates the day-to-day activities and running of the prison, serving the needs of both staff and prisoners.
The role is both administrative and physical in nature. The physical aspect involves manual handling, requiring the ability to lift/move heavy items, with boxes weighing between 20kg-30kg.
Key Accountabilities
1. Keep accurate records of items issued-out and stock levels, ensuring that correct processes are adhered to.
2. Raise Purchase Orders (PO) for suppliers and place requisition orders on the Guided Buying and SAP databases.
3. Check items against delivery notes and Goods Receipt (GRN) in the system.
4. Handle telephone enquiries from suppliers and provide advice to staff and customers.
5. Manage enquiries regarding quotes, prices, delivery dates from suppliers, and emergency uniforms for staff.
6. Manning the Stores door during opening hours, serving customers (staff and third-party agencies), checking requisition forms for management approval signature, and issuing items to staff.
7. Organise and distribute staff uniforms.
What you need to do the role?
1. Experience in an administrative role.
2. Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to professionally engage face-to-face with customers.
3. Good keyboarding skills; ideally, knowledge of Microsoft Office.
4. Experience of working in a fast-paced environment with inventory control.
5. Physically able to perform manual handling work.
This role is subject to a Security Clearance.
