This is a senior clinical post, setting safeguarding strategy, and providing strategic leadership, expert clinical advice and consultancy to staff, senior managers and board members, ensuring that safeguarding adults standards and the statutory responsibilities of the ICB are met, supporting the Head of Department and wider team to meet the statutory duties under the Safeguarding Accountability and Assurance Framework (SAAF) and the Care Act (2014). The post holder will take a professional and clinical lead on all aspects of health service contribution to safeguarding adults. To ensure NHS Sussex fulfils statutory duties and maintains compliance with relevant legislation and guidance (including areas which overlap with safeguarding children). The post holder will be expected to have significant experience in supervising or advising staff in safeguarding adults. They will be a clinical expert and act as a vital source of advice and support and strategic leadership to commissioners (supporting procurements), the local authority, police, NHS England and health professionals in primary care and safeguarding leads in provider services, through the provision of supervision / coaching / mentoring to specified senior managers and clinicians. The post holder will lead on specific safeguarding agendas, as part of portfolio working, ensuring the ICB and wider health economy fulfil all requirements under the SAAF and the intercollegiate documents, and to deliver projects, initiatives and services to time and in a cost effective way. The post holder will be a member and advisor of the Safeguarding Adults Boards across Sussex and serve, as appropriate, on the sub-committees and any additional task/finish groups or working groups of these. The post holder will take a lead, as appropriate, on the completion of audits, assessments and submission of evidence to external auditors and inspection regarding safeguarding adults service provision. They will ensure that action plans are formulated to identify any gaps in service provision or quality of service provided. The Designated Nurse will produce reports, briefings and updates as required by Head of Safeguarding, ICB committees, safeguarding boards, or NHSE. They will also develop and deliver specialist training and education in relation to safeguarding adults within, and across, the health services in Sussex. The Designated Nurse Safeguarding Adults will be responsible for ensuring that NHS Sussex are compliant with statutory duties, including the application of the MCA (2005) and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards supplementary regulations (2007) across its commissioning activity. The designated nurse holding the lead for MCA within their portfolio will support the Heads of All-age Continuing Care across Sussex with the delivery of compliance.
